Position: Psychologist –Equity and Clinical Consultant, Ontario Structured Psychotherapy

Employment: Temporary Full-time or Part-time (18-month contract with possibility of extension)

FTE: 0.5-1.0

Location: CarePoint Health – 2695 North Sheridan Way, Suite 120, Mississauga, ON (with work from home options)

Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program

CPH is the Network Lead Organization for the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program (OSP) in Mississauga, Halton, Brampton and Bramalea. The program is delivered through regional psychotherapy networks as a coordinated provincial program.

The Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP) program provides access to evidence-based, short-term, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and related approaches to Ontarians with depression, anxiety, and anxiety-related conditions, with no out-of-pocket costs to participants.

Each network comprised of several organizations:

  • One Network Lead Organization (NLO) who provides quality and administrative oversight and support for providers in their network to implement and operate OSP
  • Provincial OSP providers who provide self-led first step treatment options (Bounce Back, internet-delivered CBT, clinician assisted bibliotherapy)
  • Service Delivery Sites (SDS) in communities across the region who provide individual/group CBT and CPT to clients, with fidelity to the program model

What is this role?

CarePoint Health is seeking a psychologist to provide Equity and Clinical consultation to therapists (OSP clinicians) in the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP) Program within the Brampton, Halton, Mississauga network. OSP clinicians provide cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) for individuals who are experiencing depression and/or anxiety and related concerns (including generalized anxiety and worry, unexpected panic attacks and agoraphobic fears, social anxiety and performance fears, specific fears, health anxiety, obsessive-compulsive concerns and posttraumatic stress).

The purpose of the Equity and Clinical Consultant (ECC) role is to build on the skills and competencies that OSP clinicians will develop through the standardized OSP training program and support clinicians in offering culturally-appropriate and culturally-safe care. The clinical consultation process involves reviewing cases, observation, modeling skills, support ongoing learning, and formal assessment of clinicians’ skills through the use of the Cognitive Therapy Scale-Revised (CTS-R).

The Clinical Consultant will also hold a small caseload, delivering CBT and CPT to clients in the OSP Program and offering psychological consults and assessments as needed. The successful candidate will work as part of a larger team and will work closely with the Regional Clinical and Training Lead and Equity and Clinical Consultant colleagues. The team has a strong focus on achieving equitable access and Clinical outcomes and works together to understand the clinical needs of the diverse communities across the region and coach OSP clinicians on meeting these needs while adhering to CBT principles. This includes offering training and mentorship on providing culturally safe and responsive mental health services to clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds. The Equity and Clinical Consultant is expected to work towards these goals through coaching and promoting equitable approaches to care.

Responsibilities:

· Provide regular and ongoing individual and group clinical consultation in CBT (which will include rating therapy session recordings for fidelity to the CBT protocols) to OSP therapists who are members of a regulated College eligible to provide the controlled act of psychotherapy.

· Support in the development of strategies and materials to enhance OSP CBT protocol adoption by OSP therapists in the region.

· Train and remain up-to-date on OSP CBT protocols, training program and consultation requirements, including participation in a provincial community of practice for OSP Clinical Leads and Clinical Consultants

· Collaborate with the regional OSP leadership team and management teams at service delivery sites.

· Provide feedback, suggestions, and advice as requested to the OSP team.

· Participate in regional and provincial development of the OSP program.

· Train new clinicians across the province as a course facilitator for the OSP Provincial training curriculum.

· Contribute to program evaluation and research activities.

· Complete differential diagnostic assessments as required.

· Provided CBT as needed to a small caseload of clients in individual and group format

· If the successful candidate does not have sufficient experience with any of the approved OSP CBT protocols, it will be expected that they gain that experience by providing direct CBT and/or CPT services themselves.

· Complete the OSP Clinical Consultation course

· Manager has the right to assign additional responsibilities.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is a clinician who has clinical experience and supervisory experience with CBT and is a champion of evidenced and measurement-based care who embraces developing others. The preferred candidate will also have experience in service delivery rooted in client-centered care and anti-racist practice.

Educational and Credentialing Qualifications

  • A Doctoral level Psychology degree is required, preferably with 3 years clinical and/or research experience in the field of mood and anxiety disorders and expertise in CBT, combined with being registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (Candidates who are eligible for registration may be interviewed.)
  • Eligibility for certification with the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CACBT) is an asset.

Knowledge and Experience Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years previous experience in the delivery of evidence-based CBT treatment models for depression, anxiety and anxiety related conditions, ideally with an extensive client base of various levels of complexity in a variety of conditions.
  • Evidence of receiving formal CBT training and appropriate supervision. Preference will be given to candidates with experience training or supervising others in CBT, and those who have training/education in effective supervision/consultation skills and at least 1 year of experience supervising/ consulting for others.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills to work with an interprofessional team and team members across multiple organizations
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practiced skills in providing culturally safe and responsive mental health services to clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience adapting evidence-based psychotherapies for specific populations such as racialized communities, low-income and LGBTQ2S+ and working within anti-racist and anti-oppressive clinical framework.

The position requires knowledge of:

  • The science and practice of cognitive behaviour therapy including a full range of psychotherapeutic and assessment techniques to assess, plan, coordinate and implement specific clinical protocols.
  • CBT and its application for depression, anxiety disorders, as well as obsessive-compulsive concerns and post-traumatic stress.
  • Training and practice in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD an asset.
  • Education and/or experience in teaching/supervision/consultation with adults.
  • Ethical guidelines for the provision of effective clinical supervision/consultation.
  • Distinguishing features of depression, anxiety disorders, OCD and PTSD, and the etiology and treatment of these disorders.
  • Relevant sections of legislation, e.g., Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act, and professional standards to ensure compliance and consistency in provision of client care.
  • Computer software to generate correspondence and input data for a variety of program specific tools e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, workload measurement, electronic health records

Other Skills/Competencies:

  • Passionate about contributing to positive social change and commitment to anti-oppression and anti-racism
  • Analytical thinking skills to understand and provide consultation and capacity building supports to others in the designated assessment and treatment protocols, while considering strengths and challenges.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills to effectively communicate with provincial training leaders, regional therapists, other consultants, partners, program managers, and directors.
  • The ability to work with clients and clinicians of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds.
  • Fluency in languages other than English that are commonly spoken in the community is considered an asset (e.g.,Arabic, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Polish, Spanish, French, Yoruba, Mandarin, Cantonese)
  • Understanding of program evaluation and research methodologies is an asset
  • Time management and organizational skills in order to effectively address and prioritize multiple tasks and timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort in utilizing an on-line learning management system
