What will you be doing?
JOB OVERVIEW
Provide fast and courteous service of food and beverages to guests and ensure the quality of food and beverage presentation per established standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be dependable and prompt, arriving on time and ready to work in a clean uniform and a nametag.
- Greet all guests and take beverage and food orders promptly and professionally.
- Provide recommendations, use upselling techniques and communicate any specials.
- Prepare food and beverages for service to hotel guests and present food according to established health and presentation standards.
- Adhere to the steps of service, ensuring a consistent experience for all guests.
- Communicate all dietary and allergy information to the kitchen.
- Clear and clean tables promptly and efficiently. Clean and/or wipe down tables, chairs, walls, windows, mirrors, and floors as necessary.
- Polish all glassware and related tableware used in service.
- Maintain an organized kitchen pass area including stocking, preparing garnishes and mise en place for service.
- Respond to guest requests in a swift and courteous manner, offering alternatives if something is unavailable.
- Receive guest payments and process transactions as outlined in the cash and charge procedures as needed.
- Ensure that stations are clean, stocked and maintained throughout the shift.
- Perform side-work, and any other opening or closing duties as required.
- Alert Outlet Management of any service and/or safety issues. Make appropriate service recovery gestures according to established guidelines to ensure total guest satisfaction.
- Deliver food and beverages to the guest table in the restaurant, making sure each guest receives the correct items.
- Delivers and serves food and beverages to hotel guests’ rooms; set up and serves the order in the guest’s rooms according to specifications and standards.
- Describe all menu items; methods of preparation and prices as needed. Work within policy to accommodate guest’s special food requests.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments. Coordinate VIP deliveries with appropriate departments.
- Required to answer room service phone calls and record orders; utilize up-selling techniques to increase sales.
- Collect trays from guest rooms and hallways when requested.
- Collect all hot and cold items from the kitchen for the Lobby Bar.
- Prepare beverages requested by customers. Adhere to established pouring standards and drink recipes to provide a consistent product to the guests and to control costs.
- Setup lobby bar for beverage service including all alcohol, mixers, hot beverages, garnishes, glassware and supplies.
- Perform pre-and post-shift side-work (prepare garnishments, replenish/store snacks, etc.).
- Requisition all necessary supplies.
- Perform setup and break down of function room in line with banquet event order.
- Be punctual in preparing food and beverage items for event breaks and meal periods.
- Coordinate any additional guest requests with management and kitchen.
- May assist with other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- In carrying out your duties you will follow all Company and Brand Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Basic reading and writing. Foodservice experience with general knowledge of restaurant operations.
- This job requires the ability to perform the following:
- Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Remain stationary for extended periods.
- Moving about the restaurant
- Handling food objects; plates, trays, glasses, etc.
- Bending, stooping, kneeling

- Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with guests and waiting for staff, cooks, and supervisors.
- Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or provincial government agencies.
- Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when taking orders, completing paperwork, etc.
- Basic math skills are frequently used when handling cash and credit.
