As a Retail Cannabis Associate, this is an opportunity to share your knowledge, to learn from others, and to hone your skills in the cannabis industry while working at a boutique store that is owner-operated by an easygoing leader who loves cannabis and people!
About the ideal candidate
- You are available to work a full-time schedule of day and afternoon shifts totalling 35-42 hours per-week, 5-6 days per-week. You live in downtown Toronto, or you can easily commute to the downtown area at Carlton and Sherbourne Streets.
- You love all things cannabis and have a strong understanding of products and brands available at the OCS, which you developed through experience working at a Retail Cannabis store, and more generally from your love of cannabis products and the community.
- You consider yourself a “people person” and you enjoy talking about cannabis with anyone who will listen! You may consider yourself a “weed geek”, or maybe just someone who knows a lot about the plant and how it is produced, but your knowledge is significant.
- You are seeking to further develop your knowledge of cannabis and enjoy the thought of using your communication and hospitality skills to help others better understand and experience cannabis. For you, job satisfaction comes in part from seeing customers happy and returning to the store.
- As well as being a people-person who loves cannabis, you are also highly reliable and can be counted upon to be on-time and do a good job.
- While prior experience working in the regulated or legacy cannabis industry is required, exception may be made for an otherwise very strong candidate. Education in the field of cannabis science or production (academic or commercial) is also an asset.
What you’ll be doing
- Acting in a position of trust and responsibility as a keyholder, and working as a member of a small team lead by the store’s owner.
- Greeting visitors to the store, checking identification to ensure that only persons of legal age are allowed to enter and purchase cannabis, and adhering to legal requirements set out in the mandatory CanSell certification course.
- Helping customers with the selection and purchase of cannabis by listening carefully and being responsive to their needs, while being careful to provide information within the rules, and by fulfilling orders promptly and accurately.
- Acting professionally and treating everyone with a high level of respect and care, while helping to ensure that the store is kept a safe, positive and friendly environment for everyone.
- Being a brand ambassador for Vertie and for the companies whose products we sell.
- Supporting ordinary operational activities to ensure that the store and inventory spaces are kept well organized and tidy, including light cleaning duties.
Compensation
- $21+ per-hour.
- Employee discounts for store merchandise.
- On-going training from in-house and external sources.
What you’ll need
- You must be 19 years of age or older.
- You must successfully complete the mandatory CannSell certification course prior to the first day of employment. If not already certified, reimbursement for the course will be offered after the start of employment.
- As required by law, successful applicants will be required to provide a copy of a Criminal Record Check from an accredited police agency. If an offer of employment is extended, suitable photo identification will also be required.
- Prior criminal convictions are not necessarily a barrier to being hired – consideration will be made on a case-by-case basis at the company's discretion. Applicants convicted of cannabis-related offences (only) will be given priority consideration for an interview.
- The successful applicant will be subject to a three-month period of probationary employment.
