Safety, Health & Benefits Specialist

All our decisions are made in the interests of safety and wellness, and the Safety, Health & Benefits Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring we continue to operate as one of the safest fleets in North America. Reporting directly to the Director of Talent & Engagement, the Safety, Health & Benefits Specialist plays a vital role in developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive health and safety program, and acts as the administrator of our benefits program. The Safety, Health & Benefits Specialist will promote a culture of safety, identifying potential hazards and taking a proactive approach to prevent workplace injuries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide recommendations and guidance in relation to Section 2 of the Canada Labour Code, and ensure the company remains in compliance with all local and Federal regulations relating to Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Identify, develop, and conduct effective Health & Safety training programs based on best practices within our industry, with a goal of continually improving overall safety and wellness within the organization.
  • Administer Health & Safety training, including training for new staff and annual refresh training. Where required, source and administer additional training to mitigate or eliminate newly identified workplace hazards.
  • Provide guidance to employees regarding their rights and responsibilities as they relate to Health & Safety. Promote a strong safety culture by fostering a sense of responsibility and accountability among all employees.
  • Participate in safety related activities such as safety meetings, emergency responses & inspections, and workplace accident investigations, and ensure that accurate safety records and reports are sourced and filed appropriately.
  • Provide guidance to staff in relation to WCB claims and assist in administering effective return to work plans.
  • Act as a point of contact and administrator for employees in relation to all benefit and wellness programs.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Firm support and commitment towards Health, Safety, and Employee Wellness
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge & experience with MS Office Suite and Teams. Experience with TMW software is considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently within a group setting
