POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Branch Manager - Mississauga (with dotted line reporting to the General Manager – Sales and Marketing), the Sales Manager is responsible for the market shares for Crown and other key product lines, financial performance, personnel development, and the day-to-day activities of the territory sales function of a branch office. Design and/or review and implement sales policies and programs. Reporting to this position are any of/all the following sales-related positions: Senior Account Manager, Account Manager, Account Representative, Sales Representative.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Select, train, develop and counsel direct reports.
- Travel on sales calls with salespeople to discuss approaches and performance.
- Conduct sales training on products and techniques with individuals and groups.
- Make compensation recommendations to Branch Manager. Communicate compensation decisions to all direct reports. Approve expenses for direct reports.
- Perform duties such as creating/revising job descriptions, conducting Talent Development discussion sessions, rating performance, and establishing/tracking goals.
- Responsible for coaching, motivating, and developing direct reports to successfully take on additional responsibilities.
- Participate in personnel issues as required.
- Plan, conduct and participate in sales meetings.
- Establish and review sales territories to ensure proper coverage, market share and market awareness.
- Plan account strategy with territory sales people individually or with other manager(s).
- Confer with Branch Manager, General Manager – Sales and Marketing, and other corporate personnel.
- Coordinate activities among other Sales Managers pertaining to sales, leasing, rental, loaners, used equipment, service and parts activities.
- Review and/or approve pricing, terms, and financing of contracts for all sales activity.
- May coordinate and/or participate in product demonstrations.
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of proposals as necessary.
- Maintain direct contact with current or prospective customers at end user locations, branch office tours or factory visits.
- Participate in customer service for key accounts, complex transactions, irate customers, or other situations. May maintain primary relationship with selected accounts.
- May design and/or oversee installation of purchased equipment.
- Responsible for all sales reports required by corporate management.
- Monitor all sales-related databases and Branch Sales Activity Report. May review and approve all invoicing for new sales.
- May participate in production prioritization and delivery logistics of company products.
- Review accounts receivable for assigned territories and make recommendations to Branch Manager on payment terms and write-offs.
- Review vendor invoicing and accounts payable status.
- Provide input and execute marketing and promotional programs such as advertisements and sales contests.
- Participate in legal proceedings.
- Interview, research, and select vendors.
- Negotiate terms and pricing for customer installations and inventory.
- Review sales revenue and cost projections.
- Prepare budget for Branch Manager and revise as necessary.
- Track financial performance, identify variances, and take appropriate actions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOW HOW & EXPERIENCE
- A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to safely operate lift trucks (training provided) and other vehicles.
- Relevant post-secondary schooling. A four-year degree is preferred.
- At least five years of prior sales experience is required. Material handling sales experience is preferred.
- Five years of management/supervisory experience preferred.
- Demonstrated excellent leadership, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Good computer skills with working knowledge of Excel and Word programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required and demonstrated customer relations ability.
- Demonstrated decision-making skills, excellent organizational and planning skills.
- The ability to work with tight deadlines and has a strong sense of urgency and have excellent analytical and above average negotiating skills.
