Senior Accountant
British Columbia | Reporting to: Vice President, Finance
POSITION OVERVIEW
Waypoint is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team! As an integral part of our team, the
Senior Accountant will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing our financial processes to support
the growth and financial health of the organization. Your expertise in accounting will be instrumental in
providing essential insights and guidance for informed decision-making. Additionally, you will act as a
mentor and coach to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the accounting team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare monthly financial statements in compliance with current accounting standards.
Collaborate in the development of financial analyses, dashboards, and management reports to
facilitate strategic decision-making.
Conduct thorough reconciliations and reviews of all balance sheet accounts.
Mentor and coach fellow team members to enhance the overall accounting proficiency of the
team.
Assess current accounting processes and procedures, identifying opportunities for process
efficiency improvements, and implementing these enhancements organization-wide using an ESSA
(eliminate, simplify, standardize, automate) approach.
Assist in the preparation of annual operating budgets.
Coordinate the annual external audit efficiently.
Monitor the effectiveness of internal controls and actively contribute to the identification,
maintenance, and enhancement of accounting controls, policies, and procedures.
Provide support for direct and agency bill payment applications, including reconciliations and
addressing discrepancies.
Undertake various accounting and backup tasks as directed by your Manager or members of the
Leadership team.

REQUIREMENTS:
A university degree or college diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.
A minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting, including financial reporting and management
reporting, is essential.
Strong knowledge of current accounting standards and regulations is required.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and lead a team to enhance their accounting expertise.
Proficiency in financial analysis and the development of management reports to aid in decision-
making.
Experience in evaluating and optimizing accounting processes for efficiency improvements.
Familiarity with the preparation and management of annual operating budgets.
Experience in coordinating external audits and managing audit processes.
An understanding of internal controls and experience in identifying, maintaining, and improving
accounting controls, policies, and procedures.
Familiarity with direct and agency bill payment applications, including reconciliation and
discrepancy resolution.
Ability to perform various accounting and backup-related tasks as assigned by superiors or
members of the Leadership team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial
information effectively.
