The Temporary Senior Accountant will be responsible for using their hands-on accounting experience and in-depth understanding of accounting principles and company practices, to perform accounting activities and financial analyses for DPW Canada Business Units.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and enter monthly and standard journal entries into the accounting system to meet month-end accounting requirements.
- Provide month-end reconciliations to the GL and sub accounts and prepare weekly and/or monthly reports and statements.
- Perform inter-company reconciliation functions and communicate with the other Business Units to resolve discrepancies.
- Provide support for weekly and monthly statistics, financial analysis and operational management reports for decision making
- Assist the finance team to prepare accurate, timely and reliable monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS, including necessary reporting.
- Provide support on internal & external audits.
- Assist in the budget preparation and analysis.
- Positively drive agreed initiatives, propose new initiatives and adopt a sense of continuous improvement.
- Maintain compliance with company accounting policies, procedures and established internal controls.
Qualifications & Experience, Job Function Technical Knowledge and Skills
- A degree in Finance or Accounting, combined with your CPA (CA, CGA, CMA) designation.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience post-designation, preferably in industry.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion is an asset.
- Knowledge of the marine terminals, freight forwarding or logistics industry is an asset.
- Exceptional communication and organisational skills, including the ability to work with all departments and levels.
- Sound judgement and analytical thinking that enables decision making, ability to manage projects and prioritize and manage timelines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships and achieve buy in and ownership to quality standards/initiatives.
