We are looking for a full-time Accounting Manager to join our team!

Launched in the summer of 2019, Stratford Underwriting Agency is a Vancouver-based managing general underwriting agency that offers competitive Optional auto insurance policies in British Columbia.

Key responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Finance, this position performs full-cycle accounting functions across the company with minimal supervision. You will be responsible for day-to-day activities, establishing procedures, implementing internal controls, while providing financial analysis and making recommendations for process improvements.

Role and Responsibilities:

Manages the monthly accounting process, including:

  • Refunds
  • Accounts Payable Payments
  • IAA Car Sales
  • ICBC EFT
  • Offsets Write Offs
  • Invoice Entering
  • Stop Payment
  • Uploading CFP File
  • Paymentech and First Insurance

Assists with the preparation of management reporting, forecasts, and key performance indicators for the company.

Prepares monthly and compliance reporting where necessary.

Discusses variances between budget to actual to develop commentary on business performance with the Director of Finance.

Under the direction of the Director of Finance:

  • Maintains accounting policies and procedures to meet internal control requirements.
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly reports and budgets.
  • Prepares monthly and year-end schedules.
  • Prepares the initial trial balance for review, finalize as directed.
  • Aids in the preparation of materials and analyses for the tax accountant.

Collaborates cross-departmentally and act as liaison to support budgeting, daily and monthly accounting, and other financial support as needed.

Assists with requests from external partners with respect to specific analyses and compilation of reports for due diligence purposes.

Demonstrates excellent relationship management by dealing effectively with vendors, peers, and senior leadership.

Mentors the development of junior accountant and challenges them to develop stronger analytical skills.

Prepares more complex account analyses and reviews bank and general ledger account reconciliations prepared by the junior accountant.

Other duties and processes as required or as assigned by the Director of Finance.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibilities.
  • CPA Designation or intention to pursue CPA is considered an asset.
  • High level of proficiency with computerized accounting systems; advanced skills in all Microsoft office products.
  • Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.

Salary: $75,000.00-$82,000.00 per year
