We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Accountant to join our growing Ventures Team in the Ottawa, ON office. Ventures is a fast paced, exciting team to work alongside. As a division of Modern Niagara, Ventures is an incubator for non-core business operations which include: manufacturing, strategic Cleantech investments and decarbonization solutions, RNG and carbon credits, raising capital and private equity funding, energy solutions financing, R&D, and commercial real estate. Ventures provides a pathway to development, commercialization and distribution of new technologies and methodologies in the world of decarbonization in order to achieve Canada's aggressive decarbonization goals.

As the Senior Accountant, you will perform all daily accounting processes and transactions to ensure they are carried out efficiently, effectively, and within established timelines. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for preparing the monthly financial reporting. The Senior Accountant must work with both their Finance teammates, as well as with Operations staff, to ensure that the highest level of service is provided to projects, external clients, and vendors. The incumbent will have the opportunity to develop professionally and advance their Finance career upward within Modern Niagara through a combination of both education and a breadth of professional experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Daily data entry and bookkeeping in accordance with ASPE (ie: enter bills, create invoices, issue statements, receive/process payments, etc.)
• Prepare the monthly financial reporting package
• Prepare, maintain, and monitor cash flow forecasts
• Work with Operations staff to prepare/monitor job costing and profitability
• Monitor accounts payable aging reports and communicate with vendors to ensure payment terms/conditions are adhered to and vendors are paid on a timely basis
• Monitor accounts receivable aging reports on a regular basis and coordinate collection efforts to ensure cash collection KPIs are met
• Complete monthly bank reconciliations
• Prepare cheque runs, and ensure payments are accurate
• Deposit and post cash receipts from EFTs, cheques, etc.
• Work with Operations staff to ensure proper documentation is maintained (bill of ladings, sales orders, POs, etc).
• Audit against purchase orders, verify accuracy and obtain approvals
• Prepare and file HST returns, payroll source deductions, etc.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

• 5+ years of accounting experience
• Experience in the manufacturing and/or construction industry is an asset
• Experience with QuickBooks Online and/or NetSuite are assets
• Team player with strong communication skills;
• Resourceful, energetic, and strong work ethic
• Ability to meet deadlines with a high level of accuracy
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
• Desire to continuously improve systems/processes with an open mind towards change
