Primary Objectives:
Reporting to the Manager-Technical Accounting, the Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in providing expertise in areas of financial reporting under US GAAP, IFRS, regulatory compliance, and support for periodic regulatory filings. This role will be well-suited to a business-minded, dynamic CPA holder with strong experience in the insurance industry, and specific experience with IFRS 17 and other regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Financial analysis, reconciliation, and quality control, including:
- Reviewing quarterly IFRS data package and reconciliation to policy management system data and US GAAP results
- Financial Reporting, including:
- Preparation of quarterly and annual reports for parent companies and local regulatory, ensuring consistency across reporting standards
- Key materials for quarterly Board of Directors meetings
- Collaboration with internal teams:
- Regulatory Reporting - provision of IFRS results for OSFI filings
- Collaboration with Canadian, US and European affiliates for internal reporting
- External Audit support, including preparation of key IFRS / GAAP schedules for annual audited financial statements
- Other support, including:
- Support for planning and implementing changes in Accounting and regulatory standards
- Researching/analyzing the accounting impact of new transactions or business initiatives, including Technical Accounting papers
- Coaching, mentoring and development of team members on technical matters
