About this opportunity:
Reporting to the Superior Refining Co (SRC) Finance Manager, the Sr. Accountant/Financial Analyst takes a lead role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the financial close process and financial reporting in accordance with Cenovus and SRC Financial Leadership directives, policies, and procedures. Ensures SRC financial processes are standardized with the other U.S. Downstream Manufacturing Assets and that financial results and reporting alignment between actual results and forecasts along with the timely communication of financial reporting to the Business Unit (BU) is paramount. Effectively contribute to business unit initiatives, and function as a focal point to the leadership team and functional areas managers / cost center owners on providing insight into the Operating Expense and Capital numbers and ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting against budgets and forecasts.
Responsibilities:
- Support performance reporting and planning cycles including actuals, forecasts, budgets, and long-term plans and plan submittals while ensuring the timeliness, integrity, and accuracy of data inputs.
- Develop and recommend performance actions/interventions with Refinery and senior Cenovus leadership which provide an understanding of underlying business performance trends and drivers, such that appropriate interventions can be identified and enacted.
- Support delivery of Annual Plan and Strategy Refresh and other long-range plans, networking with all refinery stakeholders to ensure refinery activity plans are accurately reflected in financials plans.
- Contribute to driving performance management processes that incorporate performance reporting and analysis and competitive benchmarking.
- The Sr. Financial Analyst is a SAP reporting power user and MS Excel intermediate/expert user through focused training and leveraging Finance and Operating resources that have demonstrated a willingness to help the Superior Refining Company (SRC) Finance team.
- Ad-hoc cost analysis to provide insights into sustainable cost reduction opportunities.
- Conduct analytical deep dives on specific performance issues, as needed.
- Maintain and develop tools and models for refinery performance consistent with guidance from central finance teams.
- Specific to supporting operating expenses including energy, power, and water.
- Heavy focus on refinery expense and capital project AFE's and asset ledger maintenance
- Take lead role with improved reporting on key items including but not limited to Open P.O. commitments, AFE status reporting, etc.
- Provide finance and accounting services (including accruals, allocations, inter-company transactions, preparation, and analysis of business unit financial statements etc.)
- Act as a focal point under direction from the SRC Finance Manager for corporate initiatives and process improvements projects and coordinating activities as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree, with a preference in Business, Finance, Economics or Engineering
- 5 years of financial analysis experience; finance background
- Strong analytical, financial control, reporting skills; Able to interpret and communicate financial information with clarity.
- Advanced Excel skills.
