Job Title: Senior Administrator,Accounting and Payroll
Status: Regular, Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

Salary: This position starts at$70,000 per year and increases to $96,000 per year, over a 10- year period.This salary range incorporates experience, yearly salary increments to rewardyears of service, employee growth and development within the organization.
The Opportunity:
DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society is seeking a full-time SeniorAdministrator, Accounting and Payrollto oversee and provide support to ourAccounting and Payroll team. Reporting to the Director, Finance, theManager is responsible for Accounting, Payroll and Benefits operations ofDIVERSEcity.
The incumbent will plan, organize, direct, manage and review thework of staff engaged in Accounting and Payroll; set performance anddevelopment goals, conduct performance evaluations; train, coach and mentorstaff; make decisions regarding the selection, discipline and termination ofstaff.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Accounting operations including accounts receivable and accounts payable and all statutory reporting/remittances;
  • Review accounts payable coding, approval and ensure payment details are correct and payments are made on time;
  • Review requests for accuracy, approval, validity, completeness of supporting documents and accuracy of payment details;
  • Recommend and implement changes for existing processes to improve efficiency and operating effectiveness;
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all levels of the staff to provide information and answer any questions in regards to accounting, payroll and benefits;
  • Oversee the accuracy and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for union and exempt employees. Ensure new hires and Payroll changes are processed in a timely manner and in compliance with all necessary regulations and laws;
  • Mentor, develop, and train employees to provide a solid understanding of procedures, policies, and functions relating to accounting, payroll and benefits;
  • Responsible for completion of standard year end payroll tasks including statutory reporting (T4s, T4As, T4Pas, etc.);
  • Oversee billings, regulatory filings, and compliance with legal/statutory requirements;
  • Oversee the administration of the Group Health and Manulife benefit programs and plans;
  • Oversee administration of the employee pension plan;
  • Supporting the implementation of new accounting or payroll system including but not limited to providing training to employees and creating training manuals;
  • Liaise with Executives and departmental Managers to resolve Accounting and Payroll issues;
  • Special projects and other related duties, as required.
Key Liaison
  • Internally with HR and staff;
  • Externally with benefits provider, WorkSafe BC, Municipal Pension Plan Provider, Canada Revenue Agency, auditor, banks and Community Social Services Employers' Association (CSSEA);
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
Qualified candidates willpossess
  • Payroll Designation or equivalent education and experience from a recognized program;
  • Certified Professional Accountant or equivalent education and experience from a recognized program;
  • 5 to 10 years of related progressive experience in a complex labour relations environment (non-profit unionized preferably) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Knowledge of fund accounting, current employment law, labour relations regulations, statues, collective bargaining and collective agreements. Experience with the General Services Collective Agreement (BCGEU) within the social services sector will be given the highest preference;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership and work independently and collegially in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information and make sound judgments using conciseness and credibility built through expertise knowledge;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a demanding work schedule with competing priorities simultaneous;
  • Demonstrated ability to stream workflow processes and implement continuous improvements within your team;
  • Demonstrated ability to create a highly functioning team with limited resources;
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural experience and/or knowledge of immigrant settlement and integration issues;
  • Experience in a community based non-profit society;
  • Strong written, oral and presentation communication skills;
  • Strong negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution and contract interpretation skills.Strong administrative, organizational and budget management skills;
  • Experience in Sage (accounting system), Payworks (payroll system), Microsoft Office and other social media/systems applications.
Preference will be givento candidates who also posses:
  • Payroll and Compliance certification
  • A Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation;
  • Verbal and written fluency in a second language;
  • Experience managing within a unionized environment.
