Purpose
The Senior Analyst, Pension Investments is responsible for supporting the management and oversight of investment portfolios for several pension plans offered by the Bank. Assets under management of ~$8 billion. The incumbent will ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Act as compliance officer for the department, ensuring ongoing compliance by all service providers while being responsible for managing the resolution of any issues with advice from the Directors. As necessary, complete to research and advise on any new developments in standards and regulations.
- Be the primary liaison with external and internal auditors, dealing with auditors and/or the Financial Reporting group on matters related to the preparation of Audited Financial Statements for all Canadian and US pension plans.
- Contribute to stakeholder investment reports, including quarterly reporting packages for various investment committees. Those investment committees include but are not limited to Scotiabank Master Trust, Scotia Capital, Roynat, MD supplementary plan, US Pension Plan and Scotiabank DC plan.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly performance reporting and risk analysis, providing insights on manager performance.
- Work with the investment managers and custodian to ensure that the reported market value and performance calculations for individual mandates are accurate.
- Handle operational requests from internal Scotiabank departments including audit, accounting, product control, risk management and compliance.
- Take initiative and looking for ways to continuously improve status-quo processes.
- Identify and thoroughly investigate reporting discrepancies and determine appropriate course of action on a timely manner.
- Provide regular and ad-hoc reports to support key investment decisions.
- Assist with all aspects of compliance monitoring including Third Party Risk Management.
- Perform reconciliations for cash flows and invoices.
- Assist with monthly reporting to HR and actuaries.
- Assist with preparation of committee meeting packages.
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen stakeholder relationships while leveraging broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Completion or progress towards completion of CFA (an asset).
- University degree in business, economics or other relevant field.
- CA designation or Master of Finance (an asset)
- Experience with Bloomberg and financial modeling (an asset).
- Superior analytical, financial, quantitative and information technology (MS Office) skills with a strong attention to detail.
- A curious mindset and capable of self-motivation.
- Strong written and communication skills.
