Senior Director, Automation

The Role  

 

Reporting to the VP of Global Managed Services, the Automation leader is responsible for spearheading and owning automation initiatives and strategies within GMS. Their primary role is to foster a culture that drives a global approach to automation. Further, they drive and deliver efficiencies through automation and own automation framework and platforms. 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive automation roadmap for Global Managed Services that aligns with the company's strategic goals. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation and leveraging Digital Services capabilities  

  • Create a roadmap, prioritize and execute initiatives based on the value to the business. 

  • Provide guidance and consultative support to project teams on implementing automation solutions, ensuring adherence to best practices 

  • Demonstrate ROI and value proposition for automation in GMS. 

  • Prepare the evolution from current automation tooling with the intention of including AI technologies to scale the automation power. 

  • Create a roadmap that aligns with an Equinix as a Service Approach. 

  • Adapt strategies as customer needs evolve over time. 

  • Act as a technical leader in diagnosing and resolving complex automation-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to development processes. 

  • Implement proactive monitoring and alerting systems to identify and address potential bottlenecks or failures in the automation pipeline. 

  • Collaborate with development teams to analyze root causes of automation failures and drive process improvements. 

 

Knowledge and Experience sought: 

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead and empower a team of software engineers.   

  • Proven track record in leading software development budgets, schedules, and resources.  

  • Proven track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining automation frameworks and tools for software development and testing. 

  • Experience in infrastructure operations management with knowledge to identify automation opportunities.  

  • Fluent in English. Desired Japanese, Portuguese, or Spanish 

  • Previous experience in a leadership or mentorship role within a software engineering or automation team. 

  • Global multi-country experience 

 

Skills and Attributes: 

  • Display exceptional leadership qualities, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability within the automation team. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and provide creative solutions to technical challenges. 

  • Excellent communication skills, effectively conveying complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Proficient in Agile methodologies and experienced in leading Agile teams.
