What is the opportunity?
This role will direct all aspects of finance, accounting and risk management functions for the organization. Manage a team of directors, senior managers, and managers by providing financial and people resource guidance.
What will you do?
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight over the global Financial Control function for Wholesale Finance. Lead a high-performing team towards the achievement of our key objectives, including being a value-add advisor to business partners, creating and upholding an excellent controls environment, and engineering engaging experiences.
- Drive change, leading transformation projects that challenge the status quo, create and protect business value, and drive efficiencies. Proactively lead and execute on opportunities in light of changing business, management and/or financial reporting needs
- Provide practical financial advice spanning the accounting, controls, operational, and key performance metrics dimensions on issues and project implementations beyond tick-the-box compliance, to key stakeholders within Wholesale Finance and partners across RBC’s functional groups and businesses.
- Lead the accurate and timely performance of key controllership processes (for example, reconciliations/attestations and financial statement close) together with global Controllers.
- Chair Wholesale Finance Global Controllership Council, and create / lead global control environment initiatives that advance the SOX program to proactively respond to risks as they emerge and maintain best in class governance while creating sustainable efficiencies.
- Streamline, simplify and automate the design and execution of internal controls and processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
- Liaise and work with key partners, including external and internal auditors in their annual audit and audit-related engagements.
What do you need to succeed?
- Excellent relationship building and people management skills, including coaching, mentoring and development planning.
- Excellent analytical skills, and the ability to think and prioritize tactically and strategically.
- Resilient, curious, and solution-oriented. Ability to envision creative ideas and bring them to life.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate ideas and insights across a broad stakeholder group and senior executives
- Strong organization and time management skills; ability to multi-task and handle demands from multiple sources amidst tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of external reporting disclosures, financial accounting, and control mindset
- Professional Accounting/Finance designation (CPA, CA preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in Accounting/Finance related roles, including management of medium to large sized teams, and preferably in the financial services or professional accounting services industries.
