Job Summary: The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA)is responsible for a broad range of duties including financial reporting, analysis,and financial management in supporting faculty units through the provision ofprofessional expertise financial accounting. Under the general direction of the Manager,Financial Reporting the SFA provides financial expertise to support theUniversity's fiscal year-end closing, preparation of financial reports, taxreturns and answer auditors' inquiries. This expertise is used to assistin directing the resources of the University.
Main responsibilities includepreparing and entering journal entries for the monthly accounting cycleincluding prepaid and capital entries, preparing of Ontario Tech's (OT)Management reports, the operational cashflow forecast, tax returns and other financialand operating reports for external stakeholders such as Canada Revenue Agency(CRA), Internal Revenue Services (IRS), the Council of Financial Officers(COFO) and Statistics Canada to ensure both compliance with regulatoryauthorities and continued funding.
The SFA is also responsible forgathering, analyzing, interpreting, and disseminating complex informationrequired for the operations annual budget and the operations quarterly forecastprocesses and reporting of these on a quarterly basis to OT's Audit and FinanceCommittee.
In summary, the Senior FinancialAnalyst position is responsible for supporting decision support, evaluatingbusiness plans, translating the strategic plans into financial scenarios,financial reporting and presenting recommendations based on extensive analysisto internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:
The Senior FinancialAnalyst responsibilities include:
  • Delivering professional financial guidance, leadership, education, and support to the University community including Directors and Managers of Planning and Operations, Finance and Administration Officers and other senior University community members in the areas of:
    - accounting treatment
    - financial accountability
    - financial performance
    - budget and forecast reporting
  • Responsible for the preparation of Canadian and US tax returns involving a very high degree of complexity.
  • Prepares accurate and complete financial reports for submission to internal and external organizations on a timely basis, COFO, Statistic Canada reporting, and Ministry reporting.
  • Oversees the monthly capital asset depreciation process, and performs year-over-year analysis of asset categories, and other assigned "income statement" accounts on a quarterly basis for reporting to Audit and Finance Committee.
  • Is an integral part of the Financial Reporting team to produce a monthly cash flow forecast for the university.
  • Developing, coordinating, and providing training and education sessions, as required, to the University community to enhance their ability to make sound financial decisions for their respective units.
  • Prepares, reviews, and analyses the University's consolidated management reports with analysis of results for reporting to the University's Audit and Finance Committee.
  • Active participation in all special projects, including analyzing financial processes and procedures and recommending changes for improvement.
Required Skills:
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
  • Strong financial system and software package skills (e.g., Banner, Excel)
  • Experience working with spreadsheets, analyzing financial data and statistics, and producing complex reports.
  • Experience in bringing innovative solutions and processes to create efficiencies in financial management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to multi-task, to evaluate issues and provide alternative solutions.
  • Team player and remain calm under pressure.
  • Self-starter, proactive and service oriented.
Required Education:
  • Candidates must have a Master's Degree or a post-secondary degree and a CPA (Certified Professional Accounting) designation.

Required Experience:
  • 3-5 years of financial reporting experience preferred.
  • Excellent financial modeling experience, preferably within a non-for-profit environment.
