About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, General Accounting, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for reviews and appraisals of functional areas and operational processes within the NSHA. This involves the research, documentation, analysis, and evaluation of procedures, processes, and controls in order to provide recommendations and guidance to enhance the operation of financial activities. A major responsibility of the position is the performance of year-end activities resulting in the completion of the audited financial statements and assistance with the financial statement audit.
The Senior Financial Analyst provides mentoring to the analyst team and takes on oversight and accountability for the more strategic, and complex accounting situations and initiatives requiring action and support from the Finance team. In some cases this work will include direct consultation and review with senior leaders across the NSHA. The position will have a mentoring relationship with the Manager as well as a collaborative relationship with the other Senior Financial Analysts in Finance.
* Coordinates components of the financial statement audit for NSHA under direction from the Manager. In this role, the Senior Financial Analyst has direct relationships with the external financial statement auditors throughout the year.
* Assists with preparation of the consolidated NSHA financial statements and required supporting schedules and note disclosure under Public Sector Accounting Standards.
* Analyzes activities/processes with a view towards identifying enhancement opportunities to improve processes. Provides strategic advice to the Manager, on all opportunities and issues.
* Analyzes and researches complex accounting issues.
* Monitors the performance of all transactional processing activities for efficiency, integrity, accuracy and quality.
* With direction from the Manager, supervises and oversees the work of the Finance Analysts by championing and following sound financial management through accurate processing, reconciliation, monitoring and reporting.
* Communicates and discusses NSHA guidelines and procedures with analysts to ensure responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities are defined and understood.
* Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the NSHA through involvement or leadership in committees and task forces.
* Builds and maintains internal and external relationships with customers and government departments and agencies related to position.
* Assistance is provided, where required, to assist key management/staff implement and monitor changes to ensure the intended enhancements are achieved.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Undergraduate degree required from a recognized post-secondary business and/or accounting program required
  • Completion of accounting designation is required
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience of finance systems and knowledge of General Accounting/auditing required
  • Possesses a solid understanding of the finance processes, controls and key performance indicators
  • Excellent collaboration, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and conceptual thinking skills
  • Knowledge of SAP and/or Meditech functionality for Finance processes and how they relate to or impact the business process.
  • Experience in engaging, mentoring and empowering teams and stakeholders in a collaborative, participate manner to respond to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the organization
  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Permanent, full-time position, 75 hrs bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives
$36.33 - $45.42 Hourly
