Your role
Radio-Canada’s News Production department in Montreal is looking for a Senior Manager, News Production who will report to and work with the Senior Director to continue evolving production workflows and help the organization thrive in a highly competitive environment.
You will plan and manage operations, occasionally coordinating projects relating to new platforms employed by News & Current Affairs. You will work within assigned budgets, ensuring optimum allocation of human, physical and financial resources. You will design and implement effective management tools, seeking to improve processes and the training plan to better meet partner and stakeholder needs while providing a high level of client service.
An integral part of your role will involve managing a variety of projects and assignments identified by your supervisor to optimize the technical quality of productions as well as the performance of human, physical and financial resources allocated to technical production. You will oversee a team of technical producers and supervise the staff in your department.
Key responsibilities:
- Set annual objectives and priorities for operations under your responsibility, implementing strategies that align with corporate strategic objectives.
- Develop an action plan with your direct partners for achieving objectives, ensuring that business priorities are targeted and adequately communicated to field staff.
- Supervise day-to-day news production operations, special events and partnership events, ensuring that your department’s human, financial and physical resources are optimally managed.
- Guide and coach field staff reporting to you in order to unite them behind common goals using an effective, efficient and people-centred leadership style. More specifically, your role is to maintain a focus on HR management and planning; continue implementing a proactive, engaging management culture; and guide and coach your team to develop management practices aligned with that culture.
- Be responsible for optimizing talent and resources, monitoring the performance dialogue process and developing talent in your department, with a focus on adopting effective, tailor-made talent acquisition strategies for the Production division while maintaining solid relationships with internal partners and external talent providers.
- Provide strong, engaging leadership by acting as an agent of change and a visible contact point to represent Production in implementing EDI strategies, change management strategies, engagement activities and other initiatives.
- Perform any other duties or assignments designated by management.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- University degree, ideally in a media-related field; other equivalent training in an appropriate field may be considered
- Over ten (10) years’ experience in a similar role in production and/or TV operations, including five (5) in a supervisory role
- Relevant experience in technical and financial resource management
- Proven experience managing teams and creating a positive work environment
- Advanced knowledge of technical production and/or production infrastructure
- Varied knowledge of production methods, technical equipment, operational workflows and production trades is a definite asset
- Knowledge of and interest in new industry trends and technologies
- Communication skills in order to build and maintain quality relationships
- Influential leadership and ability to foster participatory collaboration
- Ability to identify strategic issues as well as anticipate innovative, effective solutions
- Ability to manage change and handle stress under tight deadlines
- Excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Bilingualism (English/French, spoken and written) is an asset
- Availability to work when required during special events and/or outside regular business hours
