What is the opportunity?
You will have responsibility for embedding, maintaining, and improving the Wealth Management Europe (WME) Operational Risk program in our business units across the British Isles. This includes the execution of RBC Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) and the development and execution of the WME Internal Controls program. You will be responsible for the oversight of Operational Risk Events, Key Risk Indicators (KRI), RCSA, reporting, and coordinating the completion of material control issues.
You will also lead targeted reviews and control assessments, and provide subject matter expertise during regulatory, external and/or internal audit examinations. You will work closely with the business to ensure that Operational Risks are identified, mitigated, and that effective Internal Control measures are implemented.
What will you do?
- Lead and execute WME Operational Risk and Internal Controls program from a 1st line of defence perspective:
- Lead WME Risk and Control Self Assessments; targeted reviews; and Internal Controls assessments, making recommendations to improve the control environment
- Support the WME KRI and risk appetite measurement (RAM) program by leading discussions with key business and functional stakeholders, to ensure KRI/RAM and other measures continue to be relevant and lead to continuous improvement of risk measurement
- Promote and communicate common first line of defence risk management standards across WME, by influencing tome at the top and middle, and leading by example
- Continuously strive to improve risk management tools used in WME
- Prepare reports to key committees and boards on Operational Risk and Internal Control Matters
- Provide subject matter expertise on key change initiatives, analyzing risks and making control recommendations
- Provide a forum for discussion on Operational Risk and Internal Control with WME management including those functions forming the 2nd Line of Defense, ensuring that information presented is practical, useful and timely, risks are understood and that actions plans are introduced to mitigate risks that are outside of appetite
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, specifically comfort around engaging with and presenting to senior management.
- Knowledge of Operational Risk management principles
- Understanding and experience of RCSA and/or audit methodology
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively
- Good conflict management, negotiation, communication and influencing skills
- Analytical and decisive
- Excellent Leadership skills- take initiative, strategic thinker, team builder
- Proven self-starter, used to dealing with ambiguity, and ability to make decisions with imperfect information
- Post graduate University degree, professional designation or relevant experience
Nice-to-have
- Experience in the high net worth private banking segment, particularly in-depth knowledge of Wealth Management operations
