As the Senior Risk Analyst, you are responsible for the administration and implementation of risk management strategies to protect The City of Calgary. This position provides professional and technical advice regarding operational risks to business units within the corporation as well as external partners. In this position you will be responsible for reviewing contracts for applicable risk management content and providing approval for material changes in risk to ensure adequate protection of the corporation, including adequate explanation and justification if variations are necessary. Primary duties:

  • Provide advice on consulting, construction and goods and services' contracts and completing contract review with a specific focus on indemnities and insurance provisions.
  • Act as a resource for questions on operational risks and negotiate contract language on third party contracts.
  • Assist in determining the risk the corporation can tolerate while keeping the benefits to the citizens and The City's interests at the forefront of any decisions.
  • Investigate emerging risks and identifies reasonable insurance requirements for such risks.
  • Analyze information requested by The City's insurance broker, determining objectives to achieve procurement of insurance coverage based on The City's risk appetite and setting expectations for both internal and external partners to meet firm deadlines.
  • Create and distribute renewal packages for society partners and internal business units.
  • Collect and organize information for City policies (cyber, crime, aircraft, travel accident etc.) reviewing and organizing completed submissions from civic partners and submitting an annual renewal submission to The City's insurance broker.
  • Provide risk and insurance related training and developmental support.
 
Qualifications 
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designations with at least 5 years of insurance experience; OR
  • A degree with at least 5 years of insurance experience.
  • Working knowledge of personal and commercial insurance policies, including insurance concepts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven customer focus and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team is essential.
