The Surveyor 2 is a front-line service provider who oversees the completion of various surveying tasks to support a wide range of surveying projects. The ability to adapt to emerging technologies combined with the expectation to complete projects efficiently is at the forefront of the survey industry. As a Surveyor 2, you will be responsible for completing legal surveying duties in accordance with well-established standard operating procedures, standard work instructions, and safe work practices. Primary duties include:
Lead field surveying tasks and ensure they are completed in accordance with standard operating procedures, standard work instructions, safe work practices, and other site-specific safety policies.
Complete surveying measurements and tasks with a high attention to detail to obtain complete, precise, and accurate observations and records.
Identify, troubleshoot, and assist with resolving errors and omissions in surveying data, drawings, and/or other technical information.
Supervise, train, and mentor Surveyor Assistants in the operation of survey related equipment, calculations, procedures, and methods.
Provide verbal and written progress updates on a regular basis to leaders, project managers, inspectors, consultants, and clients.
Communicate with leaders about time tracking, progress reporting, surveying issues, safety incidents, and hazardous conditions.
Evaluate new surveying products and equipment to support adoption of emerging technologies.
Qualifications
A completed 2 year diploma in Surveying, Geomatics, or a very closely related discipline.
At Least 3 years of experience in legal surveying.
A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits.
A valid eRailSafe certification and advanced RPAS/VLOS certification would be considered an asset.
Applicants must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Applicants must demonstrate a high-level of understanding of legal surveying principles.
Applicants must demonstrate a proven ability to excel at organizing and prioritizing work and completing last-minute surveying requests.
Working Conditions: This position primarily works outdoors in physically demanding and hazardous environments and in inclement weather.
Pre-employment Requirements
Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test:An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
