Reporting to the Team Lead - Water Quality Monitoring, the Senior Water Quality Monitoring Technician will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of Water Quality Monitoring programs. Primary duties include:
- Provide leadership to other field staff in the group through training, coaching, directing, and checking field work.
- Ensure field staff are following procedures and established monitoring protocols.
- Conduct and oversee site set-up for monitoring stations including Water Quality and flow monitoring.
- Manage, check, compile, evaluate and analyze monitoring data and help with report preparation.
- Communicate with interested parties for establishing monitoring programs and protocols.
- Conduct research and review of new Water Quality Monitoring technology and emerging issues.
Qualifications
- A completed 2-year technical diploma/degree in Environmental Science/Technology or a related field.
- At least 3 years relevant experience.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) with ability to manage large amounts of data.
- Advance technical expertise in field monitoring equipment (for example: autosamplers, multi-parameter meters, sondes, flow meters) and demonstrated knowledge of Water Quality/stormwater monitoring protocols.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR a valid Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), statistical analysis, hydrology, hydraulics, and ecology will be considered assets.
- Success in this position requires strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks; Ability to work effectively in a team setting, as well as independently.
Working Conditions: Working in all weather conditions involving walking/climbing while carrying moderately heavy equipment, sometimes with unstable footing. Confined entry into the storm sewer is required.
