POSITION BACKGROUND:

The Journeyman Electrician interprets drawings, sketches and specifications to produce or repair various parts and equipment, as well as undertakes the set-up and general maintenance of electrical systems. The Journeyman Electrician uses various shop equipment, machinery and hand tools to achieve the final product. This position requires safe work practices at all times and adherence to the ISO 9001 Quality System guidelines. This position is a shop-based position.

CORE DUTIES:

Daily Shop Operations

  • Heat trace installation
  • Cut, thread, bend, assemble and install conduits and other types of the electrical raceways
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, to ensure compliance with codes
  • Install control equipment, including PLC's, HMI's, Switches, Sensors, etc.
  • Install, alter, repair, and maintain various electrical systems and related equipment
  • Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical components, including motors, VFD's, transformers, pumps and water pressure systems, and related wiring
  • Keep an accurate account of project assembly hours and materials
  • Keep notes to ensure equipment drawings reflect any/or all last-minute modifications to equipment/project
  • Mentor Apprentice Electricians
  • Perform cable pulling and wire installations and terminations
  • Plan layout and illustration of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes
  • Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and schematics for electrical equipment
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical code specifications
  • Troubleshoot equipment
  • Work with the Engineering Group to optimize electrical control projects to increase reliability and reduce costs/assembly time

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Required

  • Journeyman Electrician certificate with recommended 3 years of experience
  • Fluent in the English language (reading, written, spoken)
  • Able to demonstrate good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Easily read, evaluate, and respond to product specifications and drawings, and perform normal math calculations
  • Familiar and comfortable with various saws, grinders and other hand tools
  • Able to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to handle changing schedules and priorities, with high level prioritization skills
  • Strong work ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail

Preferred

  • Red Seal Journeyman certificate
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Forklift, manlift and scissor lift experience
  • Fall Protection experience
  • AWP experience
  • Overhead Crane experience

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, stoop, climb, lift, balance, kneel and use of hands/fingers to operate tools, machinery and materials
  • Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50lbs) may be required
  • Use of mechanical aids: overhead crane, forklift, pallet jack, manlift, scissor lift and dolly may be required
  • Regular exposure to loud noises (hearing protection is provided when needed)
  • Exposure to sharp edges, pinch points, trip and slip hazards, and blind spots
  • May be required to work in high, precarious places that are near moving parts and/or electrical works or in confined spaces

Work Environment

  • Yard and shop environment (100%)
  • May be required to work weekends and outside of regular 8hrs./day hours
  • May be required to work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and heat
  • May be required to complete work tasks outside of the typical scope, such as shop/building maintenance
