SOCIAL WORKER
One (1) Permanent Full Time
Wabasca, Alberta
Bigstone Health Commission’s Community Wellness department, in Wabasca Alberta is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join our talented Health Team. This is a rewarding opportunity if you have an appreciation for First Nation culture, a desire for continuing professional development and enjoy the support and collaboration from our multidisciplinary team and various other professionals and agencies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting clients in receiving services via telephone, video conferencing or in person
- Getting clients involved in beneficial activities, and connect them to available resources
- Assessing clients and gathering relevant information
- Offering information and supporting clients and their families
- Contacting and making referrals to other agencies and services
- Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports
- Participating in training, supervision, and meetings
- Provide crisis intervention
- Work with clients that are affected by issues related to; neglect, domestic violence, child abuse, mental health and parental substance abuse.
- Build partnerships among professionals, caregivers and families
- Collaborate with the available community agencies for the benefit of clients
- Create a supportive and safe environment
- Good knowledge of office procedures, data collection and reporting.
- Be extremely observant to detail and accuracy
- Must be able to work in a diverse environment
- Good written, oral communication and organizational skills
- Must be a team player and able to work with minimal supervision
- Confidentiality is strictly enforced
- Develop strong relationships and work cooperatively with clients
- Knowledge of Mental Health policies and procedures, relevant legislation (i.e. Mental Health Act, Health Professions Act and PHIPA)
- Other duties as requested
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Social Work from a recognized Post-Secondary institution, must be able to provide proof of education credentials
- Must hold an active professional registration and in good standing with a relevant college or an accredited professional body such as the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) and must be able to provide proof of certification.
- Must be a good resource navigator
- Must have experience or knowledge working with Indigenous populations
- Must have or obtain within 6 months of hire; First Aid/CPR certification and maintain such
- Must have or obtain within 6 months of hire; Mental Health First Aid certification and maintain such
- Must maintain a healthy and clean lifestyle
- Must have a valid driver’s license, (Non-GDL Class 5 minimum)
- Must be willing to Relocate to Wabasca, Alberta
