The Biologics Manufacturing Center (BMC) inc. is a new bio-manufacturing facility whose construction was completed in June 2021. We are looking for a Specialist, automation who will be responsible for the starting up, maintenance and operation of the BMC’s production and packaging equipment and automated utility systems. He/she ensures data integrity and equipment connection to the network, active directory and Historian. He/she provides support and technical assistance to Engineering for the purchase of equipment and the development of efficient work tools for production. He/she also supports the maintenance team (troubleshooting) and the validation team (protocol execution).

Reporting to the Director, information technologies and automation, the Specialist, automation will have the following responsabilities :
  • Provide technical support in the selection, purchase, installation, qualification and commissioning of automated equipment and systems.
  • Assist the maintenance team in troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
  • Carry out automation and instrumentation projects and participate in the validation of equipment and systems as required.
  • Participate in verifying and improving equipment performance and reliability, and in diagnosing problems on production systems. Participate as required in the maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment.
  • Manage user access to programable controllers installed on equipment and ensure data integrity.
  • Monitor and coordinate subcontractors performing tasks on various equipment, as required.
  • Write, revise and complete quality documents related to equipment. Complete change control forms and other documents prior to equipment modifications and ensure that documentation is up to date.
  • Provide automation expertise for BMC technical facilities, equipment and systems.
  • Provide technical expertise in production to improve compliance, health & safety and efficiency. Support operators in training and understanding automated equipment.
  • Participate in the resolution of equipment problems impacting product quality and/or operational issues by actively participating in investigations, deviations or others.
  • Participate in the planning and coordination of shutdowns and subsequent restarts.

You are the person we are looking for if:
  • You have at least a college diploma in automation or engineering; a university degree in engineering would be an asset.
  • You have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in an automation position in a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) environement in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • You have knowledge of robotics and electricity, preventive maintenance software as well as investigation, deviation, change control and CAPA processes, and you are familiar with PLC and HMI programming.
  • You have the ability to technically interpret and understand engineering drawings, industry standards and various procedures and guides.
  • Experience in biomanufacturing and plant start-up as well as knowledge of programable controllers will be an asset.
  • You have an analytical mind, good judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • You are quality-oriented, a good team player with good interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, autonomous and able to manage priorities.
