Job Summary

The Child and Youth Mental Health Program provides specialised mental health assessment and treatment services to children, youth and their families when the child or youth is suffering serious emotional, psychological, or behavioural disorders. Specialised services also include community development, consultation, co-ordination, education and contract management in regard to child and youth mental health.
The Indigenous Mental Health outreach worker is responsible for providing a range of mental health services to Indigenous youth, families and communities. The foundation of the work is forming positive, respectful relationships with community members, community-based service providers, various mental heath service providers and other professionals This position also has the responsibility for liasing with Indigenous personnel, agencies and communities to assist in developing community capacity to respond to children and youth with mental disorders or at risk of developing them. This position is responsible for liasing with in-patient hospital facilities to maintain a strong inter-relationship between the hospital/medical community and Indigenous agencies and communities; involved in community education, community development, co-ordination and prevention/early intervention programs targeting Indigenous caregivers, children and youth; provides clinical outreach capacity in schools to Indigenous students.
Job Requirements:
- BSW, BA (Psychology), Bachelor's degree or higher in Child and Youth Care, Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse or comparable degree at Bachelors level;OR
- Diploma in a related field (i.e. Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing or Other) plus 2 years of *relevant experience.
*Relevant experience must include a combination of the following:
- Experience providing child & youth mental health services.
- Experience providing outreach services.
- Experience facilitating groups for adolescents.
Preferences may be given to applicants who:
- Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Indigenous communities.
Provisos /Willingness statement(s):
- This position may require travel to rural/remote communities.
- Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Ministry.
- May be required to use own vehicle on an expense account basis.
- May be co-located in an Indigenous agency, school or other community setting.
- True flexible work schedule as per collective agreement with some weekend and evening work required.
- Some lifting of heavy materials such as books and presentation equipment.
- The majority of work will be delivered in an outreach capacity.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
