Overview:
The Senior Manager, Canadian Tax is a corporate tax role reporting to the Senior Director, Tax Compliance and Reporting. This role will focus on ensuring Canadian tax compliance requirements are met, reviewing and supporting quarterly tax reporting, and will pro-actively assess and recommend planning strategies and opportunities for the Canadian group of Companies. This role will also support global tax planning, transfer pricing, tax audits, and collaborate with other finance departments.
Job Responsibilities:
- Canadian Tax reporting:
- Manage the quarterly and year-end tax provisions, tax balance sheet accounts, quantification of uncertain tax positions, financial statement disclosures and related analyses for each of the Canadian legal entities.
- Support the annual budget and quarterly forecasts of tax estimates of the Canadian legal entities.
- Proactively identify, research and formulate recommendations regarding tax positions, accounting issues, risk management and deliver proposals to the Senior Director/VP Global Tax for approval.
- Canadian Tax Compliance:
- Manage the income tax return preparation process to ensure timely filing of all compliance obligations for all Canadian legal entities
- Annual update of safe income computations for Canadian entities
- Review and approve tax instalments for Canadian entities
- Canadian Tax Planning:
- Assess impact of changes in Canadian and relevant global legislation and recommend appropriate actions
- Proactively identify Canadian planning opportunities in collaboration with Global Corporate Tax team and local advisors, including cash repatriation strategies, tax savings, deferrals and other benefits
- Support planning and execution of mergers and acquisitions and other corporate reorganizations
- Support payroll and HR in Canadian employee taxation issues such as taxable benefits
- Review Canadian legal entity budgets and forecasts and prepare comparative and other analysis
- Support income tax audit process, communicate with tax authorities, prepare and review responses to income tax audit queries
- Support Transfer pricing team analysis and initiatives
- Identify, develop and implement process and control improvements, with goal to increase tax compliance efficiency, reduce costs and support progression of McCain's Global Tax Risk Management framework
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferably in Business, Accounting or Finance with CPA designation. Master in tax and / or CPA in-depth tax courses preferred.
- Minimum 7-10 years of Canadian multi-national / international tax compliance and planning experience in a national accounting firm, and/or in the tax department of a multi-national Canadian corporation.
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting and tax reporting (IFRS)
- Strong technical knowledge of Canadian income tax law and working knowledge of Canadian foreign affiliate rules.
- Experience with corporate internal reorganizations, repatriations, mergers and acquisitions, financing, and other tax planning related to a Canadian multinational company.
