Job description

Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta, serving the educational needs of approximately 17,750 students in 42 schools. EIPS is recruiting a full-time STEPS Program Teacher at Fort Saskatchewan High.

Fort Saskatchewan High serves approximately 470 students in grades 10 to 12, with 25 teaching staff and 12 support staff. The school is located in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, approximately 20 kilometres north of Sherwood Park, AB.

Fort Saskatchewan High aims to provide a stimulating student-centred environment that models lifelong learning where every person is provided with the opportunity to reach their potential.

Commencing August 27, 2024

Open to internal and external applicants, priority will be given to EIPS teachers who hold a continuous contract and meet the minimum requirements of the position.

The Steps to Enhance Personal Success (STEPS) Program is a specilaized system program designed to meet the needs of students with severe to profound developmental disabilities. These students may have physical, sensory or behavioural challenges, or medical conditions requiring specialized accommodations. The focus of the program is to build functional communication skills that enhance the quality of life within a safe and structured learning environment, with regular routines and close supervison.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Education degree

Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate

Effective organization and classroom management skills

Ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged

Excellent verbal and written skills

Experience or familiarity with analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction

Strong collaboration and teamwork skills

Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice

Relentless drive to set and achieve personal and professional goals

Ability to create an Instructional Support Plan (ISP)

Working with communicative devices and students requiring medical supports would be an asset

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training
