Job Requirements:
  • Completed related degree or 2-year diploma in an Outdoor Recreation Management or a Natural Resource Management related field (related field may include: Biology, Geology, Geography, Recreational Planning, Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, Fisheries, Anthropology); OR,
  • Secondary school graduation (or equivalent) and 2 years' related experience (related experience can include: park system (operations), conservation, outdoor recreation, forestry, any earth sciences, recreation planning, public safety /enforcement).

Related experience includes:
  • Experience in natural resource management (such as ecosystem management, fish and/or wildlife management, forestry management, invasive species management, natural resource inventory and research, environmental impact assessment), cultural resource management (such as archaeological or cultural site management, archaeology), First Nation agreement management, and/or parks and protected area management encompassing a broad range of activities and initiatives related to the delivery of recreation and conservation programs and services including recreation facility management, natural resource management, inventory or research, park operations management, and/or compliance and enforcement; and/or
  • Experience in outdoor recreation management (such as outdoor recreation planning, outdoor recreation facility development, operation and/or maintenance of outdoor recreations facilities, outdoor recreation service delivery); and/or
  • Experience in compliance and enforcement related to natural resource or recreation management.

Special Requirements:
  • Current and WorkSafe BC recognized Occupational First Aid Level 1, 2 or 3 Certificate.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence (or equivalent from another Canadian Province; a BC Class 7L/7N, or other learner's permit, are not considered equivalent).
  • Successful completion of Enhanced Security Screening, including fingerprint screening immediately upon successful offer.
  • Completion of BC Parks Law and Its Administration (BCIT PRKS 1010 or 0010 course). This course can be obtained through the BC Institute of Technology (BCIT). Course information can be found at: https://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/prks1010 . Note: if you have already successfully completed the BCIT PRKS 3110/3120 courses, BCIT course 1010 is not required. Successful candidates will have up to 3 months from date of hire to successfully complete this course. If required, work time will be provided to complete the course and course costs will be reimbursed upon successful completion.
  • Maintains a current Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL). Note: If required, work time will be provided to complete the course and course costs will be reimbursed upon successful completion.
  • Possesses a Pleasure Craft Operator Card or higher marine certification issued by Transport Canada.
  • Successful candidates will be required to attend a Provincial training bootcamp at Manning Park in April and May.

Preference may be given to:
  • Experience in compliance and enforcement.
  • Application and interpretation of policy and legislation.
  • Experience in cultural or natural resource management.
  • Experience in Parks or ground maintenance and equipment.
  • Experience of permitting and contract management.
  • Experience of project management principles and processes.
  • Experience of conflict resolution relating to client issues.

About this Position:
There are currently two (2) permanent, full time positions available in Squamish, one (1) each as follows: Squamish Area Senior Park Ranger - Alice Lake and Garibaldi South Area Senior Park Ranger - Alice Lake.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies for the above locations.
We are also actively recruiting for a Senior Park Ranger in Cultus Lake via Requisition 109473 .
Located at the north end of the Howe Sound, halfway between Vancouver and Whistler, Squamish is home to eight provincial parks that feature a spectacular display of nature's beauty filled with rugged landscapes and stunning vistas. Alice Lake is a popular family park surrounded by towering mountains, dense forests, and grassy areas. Four freshwater lakes dominate the landscape, making this a great park for swimming and fishing. The trail around Alice Lake is a popular spot for evening strolls while more adventurous hikers, will enjoy the Four Lakes Trail . The DeBeck's Hill Trail , meanwhile, offers excellent views of the Squamish River and the Tantalus Range. In addition to a wonderful network of parks, Squamish is a vibrant community and a sought-after destination for mountain bikers, hikers, rock climbers, kite and wind surfers, kayakers, skiers, wildlife and backcountry enthusiasts. Residents of this community are recreation and outdoor hobbyists who enjoy a variety of organized sports, from horseback riding to rugby.
