The primary aim of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food's Food Safety Inspection Branch (FSIB) is to safeguard public health by ensuring that agri-food, meat and seafood produced in the province is safe and wholesome.
The branch works in partnership with other federal and provincial agencies to facilitate food safety through three main program areas which are led by an executive director and supported by a team of administrative and policy and program advisory staff. The branch also supports food safety through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership by administering cost-shared food safety programming for B.C. farmers, ranchers and food processors.
The Agri-food Compliance and Enforcement Program oversees the licensing and inspection of farmgate and farmgate plus rural slaughter facilities, and Compliance and Enforcement activities related to organic label use, mink farming, and violations of the B.C. Food Safety Act under the Meat Inspection Regulation.
This position performs inspections, investigations, and/or compliance testing to identify non-compliance with legislation and/or regulations, license conditions or decisions, and impose fines or other sanctions against non-compliant parties. Gathers evidence in preparation for criminal court proceedings.
Job Requirements:
  • Diploma or higher in a related discipline such as administrative law, investigation and Enforcement, criminal justice or criminology; OR
  • Certification or equivalent in a related discipline such as administrative law, investigation and Enforcement, criminal justice or criminology; OR
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and training may be considered.
  • Experience working with relevant legislation, regulations and/or policies governing a regulatory program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in by-law enforcement or inspection and investigation in a regulatory field

Preference may be given to candidates with:
  • Education and/or experience in food safety and hygiene.
  • Experience in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with standard computer applications including Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), and Apple products and operating system.

Willingness Statements:
  • Have or be able to obtain a valid B.C. driver's licence.
  • Travel to remote locations by way of small boats, float planes and helicopters where necessary.
  • Work overtime.
  • Interact with upset or irate clients,
  • Physically able to conduct fieldwork.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Position is available in Abbotsford
