Job Summary

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is the Province of BC's primary emergency response organization. It operates year-round to deliver its mandate for wildfire management and response to natural hazard emergencies. The BCWS operates provincially, delivering services through six fire centres, thirty-three zones and two provincial centres in Kamloops and Victoria.
This position is responsible for managing the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the FireSmart program within wildfire prevention and across British Columbia (BC). As the FireSmart Program Lead, the position requires a dynamic relationship builder with experience coordinating projects on a provincial scale, strategic program planning as well as experience managing staff and financial resources. This position is responsible for leading the portfolio of programs that further work in each of the seven FireSmart disciplines.

Job Requirements:
Education and Experience
  • Degree in a field related to forestry, resource management, business administration or equivalent plus three (3) years **related experience; OR,
  • Technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management, business administration or equivalent plus five (5) years **related experience; OR,
  • A combination of education, training and **related experience may be considered.
    **Related experience is defined as business management related to program coordination and/or community resiliency and/or emergency management.
  • Experience administering budgets, developing, and implementing programs and policies.
  • Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, and supervising staff.
  • Experience in negotiating and/or mediating solutions in natural resource management.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have senior Fireline Certification (ex. Type 2 or higher).
