Reporting to an excluded manager, the Senior Authorizations Specialist is accountable for making natural resource authorizations decisions and recommendations on complex applications or against complex legislation and regulations. The Senior Authorizations Specialist is also responsible for Timber Pricing program areas.

Job Requirements:
  • Degree in a natural resource field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area. (e.g., Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia))
  • Experience in negotiating /mediating solutions in natural resource management.
  • Related experience (field/office) working in resource management.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Experience in supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring staff
  • Three (3) years or more experience in forest revenue, appraisals, scaling, waste, cruising or other functions related to forest management.
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating and resolving conflicts with stakeholders in natural resource management.

  • Valid B.C. driver's license
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC
  • Willingness to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain
  • May be required to operate field equipment (i.e. quad, snowmobile)
  • Must have and maintain valid Class 5 B.C. driver's licence or equivalent
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC

About this Position:
There is one (1) permanent position available.An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forest offices: Dawson Creek, Fort St John, Fort Nelson.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement
