Summer Camp Maintenance Team Member

Glen Bernard Camp (GBC) is one of Ontario’s premier Summer Camps for girls and Outdoor Education Centres for co-ed school groups. Located 45 km north of Huntsville, GBC includes over 700 acres of land with a kilometre of shoreline. Founded in 1922, GBC has an established reputation for helping campers develop self-confidence and independence and for being a leader in environmental education.

Being a staff member at GBC offers high school and university students the opportunity to work outdoors and learn valuable life skills. The Facilities team is a small group of individuals who maintain the camp's facilities, including buildings, water systems, property maintenance, waste removal, and repairs as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assist in all aspects of property maintenance including painting, grass cutting, minor repairs, and general maintenance duties.
• Maintenance and testing of water systems.
• Assist in the repair of buildings and facilities.
• Dispose of trash and manage recycling.
• Follow a schedule for checking physical plant and equipment for safety, cleanliness and good repair.
• Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including government guidelines and Ontario Camp Association standards.
• Other maintenance-related tasks are as directed by the Director of Facilities.

Qualifications and Skills:

• A high school diploma or its equivalent or experience in facility and site maintenance, construction, or groundskeeping business.
• Full G Driver's Licence.
• Ability to take initiative and problem-solve.
• Proficiency in safely using power equipment and tools, heavy and light machinery, and building materials.
• The ability to lift up to approximately 50 pounds and occasionally lift equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds may be required.
• Willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours according to the camp schedule. Operate with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and other environmental conditions.
