About the program

  • 9-12 week program: May-Aug.
  • Challenging assignments within your designated discipline that are steered by a set of attainable expectations and deliverables.
  • An assigned Supervisor and team support and feedback on work-related matters.
  • Interns will work on group projects including a Community project based within the communities in which the Company operates.
  • Work assignments and projects will involve several presentations and other interactions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participation in team building and social events with other interns and employees.
About the Role

This role will support the Operations and Environment Site Supervisor in the management of the Canada Legacy Assets sites in Elliot Lake. The successful candidate provides support through coordination across line and functional teams. The position is based in Elliot Lake Canada.
Main functions:
  • Responsible for assisting in environmental monitoring of surface and groundwater at the Legacy Assets sites in Elliot Lake.
  • Assist environmental staff in performing site maintenance activities.
  • Contribute to the risk management processes for the team through engagement with site staff, technical expertise and functional support.
  • Contribute to improvement initiatives and apply BOS (BHP Operating System) principles in everyday work.
  • Ensure to follow and support compliance with HSEC principals and the Legacy Assets HSE framework. Ensure that all work is executed safely and according to design with the goal of zero harm to personnel and environment.
  • Adheres strictly to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements in all areas while on RAL property.
  • Follows all company policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Summer Student position as required or as assigned by the department supervisor.
About You

  • Basic understanding of water treatment, environmental monitoring and closed site management practices.
  • Proof of undergraduate program as a full-time student in environmental sciences
  • Previous mining or industrial experience considered an asset.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to safely operate light vehicles and have a valid G2 or G drivers license
  • UTV and/or pleasure craft operating license is an asset.
  • Operating field experience including creation of Job Risk Assessments, reading and reviewing procedures.
  • Solid interpersonal skills including an ability to interact and communicate professionally and respectfully with site staff, functional support teams, community and regulatory agency representatives.
  • Students must have a minimum 3.25 GPA.
