Job description

Are you passionate about environmental issues? Would you like to share that passion with the members of your community? If your answer is yes, this may be a great opportunity for you. Working under the direction of the Waste Services Manager, the successful candidate will assist with neighbourhood projectsin the summer of 2024!

What you’ll do

· Undertake enthusiastic outreach for neighbourhood campaigns to encourage residents to use their green bins for organics (food waste) diversion, and reduce their waste

· Engage children and other community members around composting, reuse & recycling, and waste reduction at a variety of events throughout the County

· Provide excellent customer service by responding in-person, over the phone and by email to residents’ questions about all of the County’s waste programs

· Deliver waste diversion containers (e.g. green bins etc.) to distribution locations around the County and program participants

· Additional tasks as required within the Waste Services Division

What you’ll bring

· Current enrollment in post-secondary education or graduation from studies

· Valid G or G2 Ontario Driver’s License

· Clear Criminal Reference Check

· Knowledge and interest in the environment and waste diversion

· Enthusiastic and outgoing - enjoy working with the public and community

· Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively; both oral and written

· Self-motivated with the ability to function independently and as part of a team

· Light to medium lifting will be required

· Availability to work 35 hours per week with a typical work week being Monday through Friday

· Willingness to work early mornings, evenings and some weekends, as required by the position for program/outreach functions and events

This is a student position funded by Canada Summer Jobs program. To be considered for this position, all applicants must meet the following program eligibility criteria as required by Canada Summer Jobs.

· Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period

· Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment

· Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
