PURPOSE
The Supervisor, Corporate Accounting is accountable to the Assistant Controller, Corporate Services for the completion of various accounting & financial reporting activities in a timely, accurate, andcompleted in compliance with company's accounting policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- General Accounting
Develops, implements and monitors internal Corporate Accounting policies and procedures to ensure integrity of data, compliance with IFRS and other regulatory (e.g. tax) requirements. - Assist with all aspects of the preparation of Morguard's consolidated financial statements. Includes managing Yardi roll up and consolidation books and maintaining support schedules for consolidated & elimination journal entries (recurring and non-recurring), business combination accounting as well as required inputs to prepare the consolidated cash flow statement. Co-ordinate preparing notes to financial statements and other public company reporting and investor relations materials.
- Financial Reporting
Preparation of quarterly/annual financial statements for the organization, including collecting, validating and organizing associated working papers and analysis, in a timely, accurate, andcompleted in compliance with company's accounting policies and procedures. - Budgeting / Reforecasting and Variance Analysis
Assists with coordinating the annual Budget & Reforecast requirements/process through the preparation and compilation of consolidated financial statements and associated working papers and analysis. - Support to Quarterly/Annual Audit Process
Assists with coordinating the audit process through the preparation and compilation of the working papers and financial statements in addition to helping resolve audit queries. - Policies, Procedures and Regulations
Assists with the research, development and implementation of emerging technical accounting requirements, to ensure the company is compliance with current standards and is prepared for any changes to such standards going forward. - Management and Development of Staff
Is responsible for on-the-job training and coaching of accounting personnel to increase departmental knowledge and verifies work of more junior accounting personnel and provides feedback to ensure accuracy of accounting information and development of accounting staff. - Other Accounting Duties
Assists or completes ad hoc projects assigned by Manager or Controller (ex. assisting with the research, development and implementation of emerging technical accounting requirements or processes) to ensure that the finance group is complying with current standards and is prepared for any changes to such standards in the future. - Any other job related duties and/or projects that may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or Commerce or equivalent
- A CPA designation
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience
- Excellent computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, etc.)
- Good knowledge of accounting software (preferably YARDI 7).
