MAGINO MINE:
The Magino Project is currently in pre-production with key construction milestones achieved. The first gold pour is scheduled in Q2 2023. Located in northern Ontario, Canada, 88 kms northeast of Wawa and approximately 14 kms southeast of the town of Dubreuilville, this site contains a historical underground gold mine, and tailings management facility ("TMF"). Argonaut Gold conducted a Feasibility Study in 2017 that examined mining the deposit using conventional open pit mining methods and extraction of gold from the ore using a 10,000 tonnes per day carbon-in-pulp ("CIP") mineral processing facility. Once commissioning has been completed, the Magino mine will produce approximately 150,000 ounces of gold per year during the first five years of production. The project has over a 15-year mine production life.
As this is a start-up position, the successful candidate must have hands on experience in best practice safety, mining, and maintenance methodologies to manage the activities involved in the assessment, design, delivery, implementation and evaluation of training and development programs for the Magino Mine.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducting training & leading career development for the operators in the Mining department in collaboration with Mine Manager and Mining leadership team
- Lead the development of the training matrix and training programs in the Mining department
- Provide guidance to the leadership team on developing the team of operators at all levels.
- Develop SOPs and procedures to ensure clarity and transparency in progression of Operators.
- Develop the technical progression matrix for the Mining department.
- Ensure all employees working on site are duly authorized, appointed, and skilled.
- Ensure assigned equipment is operated and maintained to original equipment manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
- Ensure employee training and legislative requirements are met.
- Identify training needs or gaps to develop and revise training and assessment resources.
- Maintain safety records, report writing and record keeping.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement initiatives of the department.
- A demonstrated personal commitment to safety is required - this is seen through work habits, one on one discussions, and throughout the workplace behaviours.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent, Safety Training
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 10 years’ experience operating heavy equipment in a heavy industrial/mining environment (preferably open pit mining) with minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Able to assess the following machinery/equipment: Cat end dumps, grader, drills, dozers, and shovels, and other mine ancillary equipment.
- Proven competency in training and assessment methods and techniques to Canadian Mining standards.
- Advanced skills using MS Office.
- Mine rescue experience is preferred.
- Superb interpersonal skills with a supportive, positive approach to training.
- Self-motivated, team player with a positive attitude, ability to give direction.
- Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills /ability to continually prioritize workload and respond to top priorities with a sense of urgency.
- Effective leadership and the ability to build a strong team culture.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- The role is located at the Magino Mine, in Dubreuilville, Ontario, Canada.
- The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on/7 days off or 14 days on/ 14 days off (12 hour days)
- Able to work in close quarters with a dedicated team of professionals.
