Nus Wadeezulh Community School is seeking an energetic and kind-hearted teacher to join our team of 12! Working with the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC), all of our teachers and teacher assistants follow directed instruction through the Read-Well, Corrective Reading, Reading Mastery and Saxon-Math programs.
Reporting to the Principal, the Teacher will guide a split-class, with a dedicated education assistant. It is important for the right candidate to have an understanding of Indigenous pedagogy and Indigenous culture. While literacy, numeracy and social responsibility are essential in education, Indigenous culture is paramount. We are strong advocates that children come first, the environment for learning must be kind, accepting, fun and playful. We hope the successful candidate will uphold these values.
Successful applicants will:
Be a great communicator who perseveres when faced with challenges;
Possess solid instructional skills;
Be a Certified Teacher in BC;
Have experience working with and supporting students with special needs and students who are not yet meeting expectations in their grade level;
Demonstrate excellent classroom management skills and can engage students to promote learning and confidence in a variety of ways;
Experience teaching in a First Nation School preferred; and,
Embrace a school-wide approach to teaching.
Requirements:
Education Degree / Teaching Certification are required
Solid instruction skills and capable of delivering BC Ministry of Education curriculum in a culturally responsive manner
A successful Criminal Record Check for vulnerable sector is required
First Aid would be an asset
