The Opportunity
This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.
Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology.
In this role you will support Production and Non-Standard operations. Plans and organizes work and initiates/maintains work schedule. Establish priorities of work assignment input, as needed. Solve a wide range of problems requiring some interpretation of defined procedures and practices. Select methods and practices with guidance from Senior Tech, Team Leader and Supervisor to obtain robust, thorough, and practical solutions. Maintain Test lab reference instruments.
Shift: 4X4 B Shift Extended, Rotating four days on four days off from 6:30am to 6:30pm.
What You’ll Do
Performs technical work with, or without established procedures. Work requires judgment, initiative, creativity, and leadership in troubleshooting, suggesting alternatives and making recommendations.
Solves a wide range of problems requiring some interpretation of defined procedures and practices. Selects methods and practices with guidance from supervisor to obtain robust, thorough, and practical solutions.
Works with occasional supervision which may vary with the context/nature of the work. Latitude exists to select appropriate work methods without guidance from supervisor.
Maintain lab reference instruments daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly; DxC600, ABL, Hemochrons, Tonometer’s, centrifuges, hematocrit centrifuge, timers, and pipettes.
Update EquipmentTrak.
Troubleshoot instruments when required.
Prepares Quality Control charts for instruments daily; check for trends and investigate any out-of-range errors.
Performs Global Software Testing; VST experiments before each software release for all product types and Data integrity check / Data gather for all completed coefficients studies.
Verify spiking solutions, update spike calculator and Spike Solution Verification Log.
Support Material Coordinator: planning and testing non-production studies.
Provide support for customer related investigation (PQA).
Execute interference core and coefficient testing for all product types.
Provide clarification and direction when required, train Operators regarding proper process procedures.
Test Proficiency Survey studies: order cartridges, review submit the survey’s results.
Updates, review lab documentations, create new documents when needed.
Ensure the lab is left in good order and appropriate status information is communicated to counterparts on other shifts.
Understands and complies with Quality and EH&S policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Safeguards the environment and facilitates a safe and healthy workplace culture.

Required Qualifications:
College Diploma (2-year program) or equivalent work experience.
1 – 3 years relevant work experience.
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize own daily work to meet established schedule and to multi-task.
Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
Ability to form and develop interpersonal, professional relationship; display socially and professionally appropriate behavior.
Ability to work independently and in groups.
Ability to quickly gain knowledge, understanding or skills and willingness to learn.
Computer literate.
Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma concepts is an asset.
