The Mobility Operations Division is seeking to hire Traffic Engineers for multiple groups, which may include Signals Engineering, Traffic Control & Parking, Roadway Operations & Detours, Signals Construction, Mobility Operations Centre, and/or Traffic Operations Safety. As a Traffic Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe movement of all users of the transportation network. Primary duties vary between groups, and may include:
  • Design, approve, or review designs of traffic control devices, temporary traffic control, and/or traffic control operation for construction projects. Ensure designs are in accordance with the City of Calgary Temporary Traffic Control Manual, Transportation Association of Canada Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada, and/ or other applicable safety standards.

  • Project management of operational projects, including coordination with and management of multiple internal and external parties.
  • Complete site checks for inspections. 

  • Develop and review microsimulation (Synchro and Vissim) models.

  • Review and provide feedback for construction drawings, circulations, and traffic impact assessments.

  • Investigate and resolve complaints from the public or other partners.

  • Analyze the transportation network for risks and inefficiencies; identify, analyze, and implement appropriate solutions.

  • Create or contribute to reports or other written documents such as construction tenders, request for proposal documents, manuals, and technical memoranda.

 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada, and current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or licensure by the first day of work.

  • At least 3 years of Professional Engineer experience in traffic operations or transportation engineering.
  • Familiarity with transportation engineering principles, TAC Guidelines and general traffic operation standards is required.

  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.

  • A personal vehicle for business purposes is an asset.

  • Knowledge of relevant software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Synchro, and Vissim would be considered an asset. 

  • Understanding of provincial legislation, regulations, and standards as they pertain to transportation engineering and operations is an asset.

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • A security clearance will be conducted. 
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
 
Pre-employment Drug Test:An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: Engineer Level E $88,706 - 133,937 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
