SUMMARY OF POSITION
We are looking for an experienced Transportation Operation Manager to join our team. The qualified individual will work as a member of our Operations Team to communicate effectively with customers, our drivers, internal staff, and management team.
- Lead and manage a fast paced and high-volume dispatch operation
- Coach and develop team members using a positive attitude, collaboration, clear communication, and direction.
- Make informed decisions based on safety, service, customer service and productivity standards, with an understanding of company processes, policies, and procedures.
- Initiate and lead process and customer experience improvements, while meeting deadlines and controlling costs.
- Achieve revenue goals
- Understanding and use of key metrics used to manage operation performance, including load factor, on-time delivery, freight increases, and rating metrics
- Recognize problems and work with others towards a practical and speedy resolution.
- Other related duties as may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
· Solid understanding of the Supply Chain and Logistics
· Dedication to a 24/7 transportation and warehousing operation
· Required to work various shifts/scheduled to accommodate sudden and changing needs and events
- 10+ years dispatching experience required and asset with knowledge of flatbeds, containers, long and short haul operation, cross border, and interprovincial and its associated laws
- 5+ years in a strong Management/Operations role for Transportation leading a team of front-line employees
- Contributing to the development of and managing to an annual operating budget.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to get things done through others and people development and provide constructive feedback in conjunction with the management members
- Good communication skills, verbal and written
- Detail oriented with excellent follow-up, problem solving and influencing skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workload
DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS SKILLS:
- Schedule, Plan and Dispatch Trucks/Drivers with the assistance of the dispatch team
- Book, change & cancel pickup/delivery appointments.
- Communicate with customers, shippers and receivers to coordinate pickups and deliveries and also our internal warehouse staff.
- Handle customer inquiries in a timely, professional manner.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
- Proficient with the use of a computer, including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office Software and Isaac Instruments Tracking System is an asset.
- Proficient knowledge with Fleet Manager is a must.
- Determine efficient and safe routing methods of transportation.
- Manage scheduling of shipments and notify departments or customers of arrival/pickup dates
- Customer meetings
- Obtain trucking rates for incoming/outgoing shipments.
