This position provides direct support to adults with complex behavioural needs in a supported living treatment setting. This time limited multidisciplinary treatment model is based on principles of applied behaviour analysis (ABA). Treatment focuses on skill building and the reduction of challenging behaviours needed to live in a community or family home environment.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and act according to Kerry’s Place Autism Services Performance Standards, demonstrating respect for all people
- Be familiar with and consistently apply the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis.
- In collaboration with the on-site Clinical and Operations team, uphold and implement all aspects of the Clinical Treatment Model
- Use creativity and resourcefulness to ensure that the quality of life principles are effectively applied for the people you provide support to in a Treatment Centre environment. Every effort must be made to enhance and maintain the person’s dignity and respect.
- Provide solutions to barriers impacting achievement of quality of life.
- Act as the primary liaison with: family, medical, educational, leisure, recreational and interdisciplinary contacts.
- Provide varying levels of support with all activities of daily living as required.
- Prepare daily teaching materials for those participating in the treatment program.
- Provide support and coaching in the areas of: social skills, communication, vocation and leisure activities
- Responsible for directly implementing skill-building and behaviour reduction programming for those participating in the Treatment Model
- Participate in intervention planning, such as conducting skill based assessments, curriculum assessments and functional behaviour assessments.
- With guidance from the clinical team, be responsible for daily data collection, tracking, and analysis. This may include graphing and summarizing information and preparing reports.
- Participate in transition planning (both intake and discharge) and implementation of transition plans as documented. This may include transitional staff support, crisis intervention and training.
- Use Kerry’s Place Autism Services resources in a cost effective and efficient manner.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with: families, natural supports, volunteers, professionals, community members and other people you interact with in the course of your work.
- Attend and participate in meetings as directed by Manager such as: team meetings, family meetings, etc.
- Participate in professional development activities related to the role and Treatment Centre as required such as trauma informed care, ABA and complex challenging behaviour.
- Ongoing effective communication with colleagues at shift change, with Manager and Clinical Supervisor and other members of the circle of care.
- The Treatment Support Specialist may from time to time be called upon by the Manager to perform other duties
Quality Assurance Measures
- Update Substitute Decision Makers regularly on progress through verbal and written communication and provide support to families in their understanding of Autism intervention techniques.
- Ensure Person Centered Planning is effectively implemented and individual’s goals are being realized in a timely way.
- Provide appropriate supports to ensure the health and safety of the people supported and ensure compliance to Policies and Procedures associated with Health and Safety and Abuse Prevention.
- Ensure that Behavioural and Crisis Protocols are documented and consistently practiced. Identify when the support of appropriate professionals are required and enlist these supports. Document and report Incidents and Serious Occurrences immediately.
- Provide appropriate supports to ensure people supported by Kerry’s Place Autism Services have the knowledge & ability to exercise rights.
- Ensure the work area is clean and safe; correct or report any safety concerns immediately. Document and report Accidents, Injuries and Near misses immediately.
- Ensure accuracy and timely completion of documentation required through legislation and policy and procedures such as: individual’s files, health records, Person Centered Plans, data collection, etc.
- Ensure appropriate confidentiality is maintained for persons supported, families and other employees.
- On an ongoing basis, ensure your mandatory training requirements are met and attend any training and development sessions as directed
- Administer medication according to Kerry’s Place Autism Services Policy and Procedure. Understand the purpose of each medication, the expected effects and maintain vigilance for the potential side effects.
- The Treatment Support Specialist may from time to time be called upon by the Manager to perform other duties
Position Requirements:
Education:
- Completion of a Human Services Diploma from a recognized Community College or
- University or from a registered and Ministry approved Private Career College and 1 year of related experience (preferably supporting people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder); or
- Completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and 5 years of related experience (preferably supporting people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder).
- Course work in Behavioural Science or Applied Behaviour Analysis is an asset.
- Experience working with complex or challenging behaviour with adults is an asset.
Knowledge:
- 1 year of experience in human services.
- Strong knowledge of the Developmental Services sector.
- Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and evidence-based treatment models and approaches.
- Competency and effective use of database systems.
- Working knowledge of related legislation and regulations such as: Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, etc.
- French language is an asset.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification, First Aid/CPR as well as perform the required physical techniques. Training will be provided.
- Position requires flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Willingness to travel using personal vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license with a minimum G2.
