Job description

If so, consider this role as a Victim Witness Service Worker to provide a full range of services to victim/witnesses of crime, including needs assessment, crisis intervention, emotional support and referrals, and to participate in stakeholder networks and public education. The Victim/Witness Assistance Program provides information, assistance and support to victims and witnesses of crime to increase their understanding of, and participation in, the criminal court process.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will be:
  • Providing information/support/assistance to clients
  • Managing/coordinating assigned high volume of cases
  • Acting as a liaison/maintaining networks to advocate the needs/interests of clients
  • Participating in projects/committees/public education activities
  • Preparing statistical reports


How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge

You have
  • demonstrated skills in providing services to victims of crime and/or marginalized/vulnerable clients meeting their special needs.
  • proven experience working with victims/witnesses of crime, specifically of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, homicide and death related cases.
  • comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated skills/ability in providing services to victims of crime and or/marginalized/vulnerable clients.


Analytical, Judgement and Problem Solving Skills

  • You can deal with client issues, interact with stakeholders and recommend services improvements.
  • You have ability to apply program policies, relevant legislation and guidelines to assess clients immediate risks, to consider various alternatives and to select and apply the best plan of action to meet unique needs.
  • You can foster co-operation of services providers in implementing new or enhanced services and bring contentious matters to the Manager.


Communication, Interpersonal and Teamwork Skills

  • You can deal effectively and appropriately with a diverse clientele and liaise effectively with criminal justice partners.
  • You possess demonstrated ability to network effectively with community agencies, work with diverse communities and be sensitive to their needs.
  • You can write reports, case file summaries, and assist in developing and conducting training programs.
  • You can work effectively in an inclusive team environment.


Case Management/Organizational and Planning Skills

  • You have demonstrated ability to manage a large caseload independently.
  • You can prioritize work in an environment of demanding multiple deadlines


Computer Skills

  • You have demonstrated knowledge of MS Office Software and working with database systems.
