Job description

Victim Services of Simcoe County (VSSC) is a volunteer driven charitable organization that supports victims of crime and tragedy across the region of Simcoe County. We are a team of compassionate volunteers and staff who have extensive training in providing 24/7 on-site, short-term assistance to those impacted by a tragedy or victimized by a crime. Collaborating with our community partners, our volunteers and staff dedicate their time, support, and experience to help make lives better. This position works in Barrie several days per week and Midland one day per week.

We are seeking a dedicated, professional individual to drive the Volunteer program, consult with the Executive Director, take a lead role on supervising, recruiting, training and engaging volunteers, and promote the agency's services throughout the community. In this role you will work with the Executive Director to:

Build the VSSC's capacity through the development of volunteer skills and performance:

  • Actively recruit, train, and motivate volunteers to deliver the services of VSSC.
  • Engage and motivate volunteers in a positive and inclusive way to encourage participation.
  • Schedule, organize and facilitate monthly team meetings (in person or virtually) with meaningful content and opportunity to collaborate.
  • Develop a calendar of events to provide professional development and volunteer activities.
  • Support volunteers in one-on-one communications and debriefings when needed.
  • Develop a recognition program to acknowledge the services of the volunteer team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Develop and maintain confidence in VSSC services through effective leadership and guidance:

  • Ensure 24/7 coverage and timely response of volunteer services via schedule and volunteer availability.
  • Work with and collaborate with colleagues on the development and implementation of changes to the program.
  • Develop mutually beneficial collaborations with community organizations to help assist clients.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are maintained and followed.
  • Manage conflict, coach others, and lead the communications related to volunteer involvement.
  • Deliver client services through the Trauma Informed Care Approach
  • Other duties as assigned.

Help drive community awareness and partnership development through communications. marketing and community outreach/special events:

  • Planning and organizing volunteer events, including site selection, logistical arrangements, purchasing supplies, promoting events, scheduling and being the primary point of contact for the event
  • Create, communicate, deliver, and exchange information that has value to a variety of internal and external VSSC and/or relevant information of its services.
  • Research and attend community events to promote and bring awareness to VSSC, its mission, services and contribution to the community and victim wellness and support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Provide administrative support to ensure effective program management and the maintenance of confidential data and information:

  • Manage data input and relevant reporting to assessment of the processes and outcomes to improve the program's results.
  • Ensure all data is secure and confidential in compliance with program and PIPIDA requirements.
  • Collect, analyze, and act upon reliable and valid data to engage in program monitoring and reporting to stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful applicant will posses the following qualifications:

Education

  • A post-secondary education, degree/diploma in the areas of Social Work, Psychology, Social Services, Criminology or an equivalent combination of related education and a minimum of 2-years experience
  • A current clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Valid driver's license with proof of liability insurance coverage on the vehicle used for VSSC business/travel.

Leadership

  • Excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills to motivate and direct large teams.
  • Previous experience in effective volunteer management, recruitment, or program coordination preferred.
  • Ability to motivate, inspire, and engage volunteers.
  • A sincere, empathetic, and compassionate understanding of the vulnerable sector
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Strong planning and facilitation skills
  • Analytical to exercise/demonstrate excellent judgement in decision-making and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to navigate calmly in highly charged/sensitive situations.
  • Ability to prove feedback and guidance in difficult situations.
  • Resourceful and solution oriented
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, only as needed/required.
  • High level of proficiency with computer operations and ability to work with Microsoft Office - Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. databases and online applications and reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of virtual delivery tools/systems
  • Knowledge of Digital marketing initiatives is an asset
  • Bilingually fluent - read, write, speak is preferred.

  • A full-time position, agreement renewable annually
  • A 9am-5pm office schedule with a flexible 40 hr/week (may require evenings and weekends at times)
