Water Utilities Operator Level III

IUM is seeking a full-time team member in the role of Water Operator Level III
- 40 hrs per week with overtime available through on-call /weekend shifts
- Hourly rate between $40- $43/ hour, based on certification and experience
- Includes full benefit package, medical/dental, flexible hours, RRSP plan, and work vehicle.
About us: IUM has been operating municipal and private water and wastewater systems throughout the beautiful Okanagan and Shuswap region of BC for over 17 years.
Minimum Requirements: The successful candidate would have a EOCP Water Distribution Level III, or would have a Level II in Water Distribution, able to work towards a level III within the year. Wastewater tickets are also an asset, as are Red Seal certifications in other trades. This position requires a water professional with strong leadership skills, mechanical skills and communication skills, with a positive and collaborative team-work approach to the job.
Key Competencies:
- Mechanically inclined and able to troubleshoot complex problems
- Positive mindset, team player and solid work ethic
- Completion of Grade 12 High School Diploma
- Valid Class 5 Driver's license; must be able to provide driver's abstract showing a clean driving record
- Minimum 4 years experience in a water treatment or distribution role or equivalent
- Certification in either Water Distribution Level III (or minimum Level II Water Distribution with the ability to become a Level III within the year.
- Ability to pass and maintain a criminal record check
- Working knowledge of SCADA systems, mapping, and record keeping.
- Confined space entry certification.
- Chlorine Handling Certificate

- The ideal candidate must be willing to reside in the Salmon Arm area.
- Opportunities for further education in the water industry and industrial safety will be provided
- Must be flexible to respond to system alarms and emergencies outside of regular office hours.
Responsibilities Include:
- Preventive maintenance, cleaning, repairs, inspection of water and wastewater systems and equipment, including collecting and transporting water quality samples.
- Assists with training new employees.
- Testing and analyzing water quality; familiarity with UV systems is an asset.
- Interpreting data from instrumentation and alarms; analyzing, calibrating, and troubleshooting problems, developing and implementing solutions.
- Monitoring and adjusting disinfection systems, including use of the SCADA and chlorine handling.
- Record keeping of the water systems, including operational records, readings, maps, and shift logs.
- Safety-consciousness- demonstrating commitment to safe work practices, ensuring all tasks are in compliance of the current rules, regulations and standards governing water supply, treatment and distribution.
- Responding to emergency call outs/ stand by as required.
