Job Description

Are you interested in working in a fun and dynamic team environment? Then we may have just the position for you! Join our part-time recreation staff team and help us run the wide variety of programs we offer for all ages & staff our outstanding facilities.

The City of Oshawa Recreation and Culture Services Branch offers seasonal and year-round part-time opportunities with flexible work hours, starting at a minimum age of 14 for some roles. Our positions can accommodate daytime, evening and/or weekend availability.

  • Cashiers
  • Sports and Preschool Instructors
  • Drop in Skating and Sports Monitors
  • Building Monitors
  • Party Leaders

In addition to providing equitable and inclusive customer service that supports the City of Oshawa core values of Authenticity, Courage, and Trust, your responsibilities may include:

  • Open and close program space
  • Setup and takedown program equipment
  • Organize and lead recreational opportunities
  • Perform administrative tasks as applicable
  • Monitor participant safety
  • Administer first aid as required
  • Complete Public Accident/Incident Reports or Complaint/Enquiry Forms as required
  • Enforce City of Oshawa policies and procedures, including but not limited to: admission requirement standards, emergency procedures (eg. fire plan)
  • Perform safety checks of equipment prior to being used
  • Supervise and enforce rules

Requirements:

  • Appropriate skills/knowledge for position
  • Possess a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment as well as to work independently as required
  • Possess, or be willing to obtain and keep current Standard First Aid/CPR ‘C’ qualifications
  • Provide own safety equipment as required for position (eg. CAS approved hockey helmet, appropriate footwear)
  • Provide a current (within six months) Criminal Information Request prior to employment start date
  • Demonstrate good customer service and communication skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
  • Attend all staff trainings and meetings
