Youth Care Worker Responsibilities:
- Provide supervision and guidance to youth in a safe and supportive environment
- Plan and implement educational and recreational activities for children
- Foster positive relationships with youth and serve as a role model
- Assist with homework and academic support
- Promote social and emotional development through mentoring and counseling
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all youth under your care
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a positive and inclusive program environment
Team Lead Responsibilities:
- Supports the planning and delivery of the organization’s policies and procedures
- Identifies recruitment needs
- Assists with the training of Youth Care Workers
- Mentors and supports team members assigned to their team
- Participates in, as well as promotes, professional development for the team and program
- Other operational duties as required and assigned
Key Responsibilities:
1. Policies and Procedures
a) Has a working knowledge of the Nova Scotia Child and Family Well Being (Department of Community Services) Standards for Child and Youth Caring Programs
b) Supports Youth Care Workers through the oversight, feedback and guidance of the team’s implementation of policy and procedures
c) Is available to give clarification and feedback to team members when required
d) Will assist team members to follow the Time Off / Shift Change Policy (ie: help to fill shifts after approval is given by the Program Director)
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or youth in a leadership role
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively educate and engage with children of various ages
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to handle challenging behaviors
- Knowledge of child development principles and best practices
- Ability to pass a background check and any required certifications or trainings
