The Revelstoke Local Food Initiative Society (LFI) is seeking qualified applicants to coordinate and host our Youth Education programs, including our young sprouts and secondary school Programs in Revelstoke, B.C. - the Youth Education Coordinator will play a vital role in our food security education, promoting food literacy and skills.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Engaging elementary and secondary school students in the two programs about the connections between their food, health and the environment.
- Understanding and updating the program as necessary
- Booking program delivery at the schools and with partners in the community.
- Presenting modules to classes (3 schools, 2 classes/school and 5 visits/class) that teach them about food sustainability and highlighting the connection between food and the environment.
- Coordinate 4 family friendly activities that will be open to the community throughout the summer, which will take place at the Downtown Community Garden and will teach participants about planting, composting, pollinating, harvesting, etc
- Develop a “camp-style” program for preschool aged children which focuses on growing food in a garden setting.
- Establish a working group of volunteers to help administer the program
- Document the program through photographs and at least 4 short (500 word) blogs to be posted on the LFI website.
- Conduct all administrative tasks associated with the project, including careful management of project budget.
- Keep digital records of program documents on LFI file-sharing platforms.
- Maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders and program partners.
- Provide a detailed project report by October 1st, 2024.
Requirements:
- Ability to engage gardeners, growers, volunteers and members of the public throughout the project
- Experience and knowledge of sustainable living practices, and understanding of the concepts around Food Security and the value of a locally produced food as it relates to health, climate change, etc.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, ability to prioritize, work efficiently, and manage budgets
- Skilled at garden planning, basic knowledge of construction.
- Proficient use of email, word processing, and Microsoft Excel
The successful candidate will be awarded a contract of a maximum of 250 hours at $26/hour, to deliver these two programs to the community.
