Program Information:
The role of the Youth Care Counsellor is to provide support to identified individuals in a residential group home setting. Youth Care Counsellors should have an understanding of basic counselling skills (Informal Counselling) and trauma-based knowledge. Youth Care Counsellors will report to, and work alongside, the Program Manager to develop and implement individualized programs to assist these individuals in reaching their self-identified goals. They will also utilize a variety of skills and techniques to teach life and independent living skills to the individuals served in a home-based environment.
The Youth Care Counsellor is responsible for client safety, day to day operations of the house, transporting youth, meal planning and preparation, cleaning duties and overall supervision of the home. Youth Care Counsellors will adapt a team approach when supporting individuals, and ensure that clients are making decisions based on personal choice and informed decision making. They will connect the individual to community services and programs in the community as needed.
Must have
- Degree or 2 Year Diploma in Child and Youth Care, or related human services field.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
- Driver’s Abstract
- Clear Criminal Records Check
- Clear Children’s Service Intervention Record Check.
- Vehicle Insurance stating $2 million liability and access to a reliable vehicle
