Strides Toronto is a multi-service agency providing a wide range of exceptional programs and services that improve the mental, social and physical health of infants, children and youth from the pre-natal stage to age 29, and their families. With a range of community, residential and treatment services our work helps to strengthen social and emotional well-being for culturally diverse clients to reach their full potential. We provide individual, group and family interventions that include mental health counselling, autism services, education, outreach and referral, early intervention, day treatment and community support. In its Lead Agency role, Strides Toronto collaborates with 23 publicly funded infant, child and youth mental health (ICYMH) core service providers to design and implement system-level improvements that promote access, responsive service delivery and experience, and positive mental health outcomes for young people and families across Toronto's diverse communities. ABOUT THE ROLE
The Accountant positionis a full-time one-year contract position that is responsible for day-to-day general accounting including fulfilling funder reporting requirements, supporting year-end audit preparations and preparations of any ad-hoc analysis or reports.
Salary Range: $57,143.00 - $66, 544.00 per annum.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Provide first level review for entries and activities carried out by Bookkeeper and Accounting Assistant to ensure accuracy of information and proper cost-center/ G/L allocation to enable timely processing.
  • Validate invoice entries to ensure correct cost-center and appropriate general ledger used for the program for which expense incurred and approved.
  • Ensure payment batch invoices and backups are in sequence and appropriate payment advices are attached, before being sent to Directors for approval.
  • Ensure invoices are sent at assigned intervals and claim amounts are as per the agreed terms of contract.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations along with required journal entries for assigned accounts.
  • Monitor budgets for assigned programs and work with management team to address any issues.
  • Gather and prepare information to be entered in the report templates that inform the respective Ministries (or other funders) where funding has been allocated and spent within specified programs.
  • Prepare Transfer Payment Budget package for Ministry of Community, Children and Social Services and Ministry of Health.
  • Liaise with the program supervisors and Directors for program related details and statistics, per Funder requirements/ needs.
  • Provide support to prepare Finance department to successfully meet audit requirements.
  • Onboard new team members, providing necessary information and direction to allow them to integrate into their role quickly and successfully.
THE "MUST HAVES"
The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:
  • Undergraduate degree in related field such as Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in accounting, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Superior business acumen related to accounting and technical skills coupled with strong analytical ability, problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong business relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic operating environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with financial reporting, maintaining books of accounts and year-end audit work in a non-profit environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial statutory regulations.
  • Experience in variance analysis, budgeting and forecasting of expenses.
  • Awareness of the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
  • An understanding of Anti-Black Racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health when working with clients and their families.
  • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of and imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts for the client.
THE 'NICE TO HAVES'
While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:
  • Knowledge of the cultural diversity of communities served by the organization.
  • Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
